2nd Sport Compact Drag Challenge, 2nd Annual and now less expensive Options

We have once again reserved the Cordova raceway for our Sport Compact Drag Challenge! There are a few changes this year. First of all the entry fee will now only be $40 per person. While we will still welcome any vehicle to run only sport compact cars will be elidgable for the trophy wins since this is the Sport Compact Drag Challenge. The tropphy awards day will be set two weeks after the race for a more timely turn around.

We will follow with a computerized sign up sheet shortly.

Sunday May 30th
Cordova Drag Strip
NOON – 4:00 PM

This event will be a fun and friendly drag competition for all racers.
(import, domestic, rotary, 4-cylinder, V8, etc.)
…but the trophy wins will be for our local Sport Compact enthusiast only since it is the Sport Compact Drag Challenge!


The process is simple: ‘Run what you brung’
Get the feel of street racing with all the safety features only found at a true drag strip. With a ‘Test and Tune’ style layout, you can run grudge matches or whoever you happen to line up against. We will again be keeping track of each racers best ET. A gathering two weeks later will be set up to hand out the awards and congradulations!

That's what most of the cars entered are daily drivers. There are a few exceptions like the MAXIMUM BOOST brothers Kris and Nate, that have the wealth to afford both a VERY fast DSM and an EVO daily driver. The rest of us drive what we race and don't drive when it's broke.

There is a seperate section for all out tubbed and caged cars. The rest are for all our street driven semi-dependable projects.

Would you clarify for me how you are determining a "sport compact" vs other cars? I can see the typical DSM's, hondas, whatever, but I have a little bit of a problem if you are going to allow 3/s cars to compete for trophies, but not camaros, vettes, stangs , etc... What will be the determining factor?

(Not trying to be an ass, I'm not as concerned about winning a trophy as I am making sure the playing field is level)

Here's the problem...Last year we gave out a quarter of our 'Sport Compact' trophies to Domestic V8's. This is all fair except this event is to promot imports and 'Sport compacts' in general. So giving trophies out to non-import/sport compacts seemed pretty rediculous.

Sport Compact Drag Challenge is a title meant to generalize vehicles that most call 'Imports'. This group usually includes domestic sport compact cars. 3S cars are import cars and for one they don't win very often so there is no extra concern for them than any other import in my mind. No offense to those heavy slugs...they have nice interiors.

If all of the DSM's with so much potential would have actually showed up with good running cars last year no domestics would have went away with trophies and this wouldn't be an issue.

Wow! This strange animosity is in two threads. I haven't met Troy yet, but I have talked to him on the phone and he seems like a cool guy to me. Messages on web forums can be perceived much differently than they were meant by the person reading it. On the other hand, Troy, you can come off a little aggressive in your posts sometimes.

Lets agree to compromise and meet in the middle so we can avoid the CII syndrome. These aren't rules, but I think they are good guidelines to keeping people satisfied on here.

1. Try not to read so hard into others posts on here. This is something I've had to work on myself in the past. One should only read in between the lines when talking to a spouse or significant other. (IMO, I shouldn't even have to do that  )

2. Try not to be too aggressive with your posting and post things that could be taken the wrong way. And if there is no other way to word it either don't post it or explain that it is not meant to offend anyone.

Recently I was questioned as to Cordova's Emergency handling capabilities at our events. Cordova Raceway takes their safety seriously and to help ease any worries out there I have attached a message from Cordova Raceway's manager....


'We have a State Certified Basic Life Support Vehicle fully stocked and staffed at all of our racing events (staffed with 2 EMT's). In addition we have a fire safety truck (new this year) with a tank of compressed F-500 (Fire-Aid). This is an addition to numerous fire extinguishers we have.

The Safety Trucks are both stationed at the finish line area with direct access onto the track. The BLS unit was stationed there last year at your event as well as it will be during this years event. In addition, there are also several of us that are EMT's (including myself).

Our Protocol is (upon an accident):

Respond on site. Call additional support using 911 system (Advanced Life Support and/or Helicopter). We have authorization to put the helicopter in the air as a stand bye or in route. While this is being done we stabilize the patient. We are quite efficient in our system and train on a monthly basis.'

Just look for the red GS-T with the "Tuned by Ranta" and "Honda Power" on the from bumper. Oh, you might notice the massive FMIC too. Hopefully I can keep Kris away from it in the mean time so it doesn't get too "grossified"... LOL... J/K! Kris, we need to you hook up the GM stuff.
