Well IMO if you have gone through a couple auto trannys that you bought on the cheap why not spend an extra couple hundred for a rebuilt one from slo pony

i believe this car to be cursed or something....i bought new tires, belts, changed the oil, fixed the air conditioning, fixed the exhaust, and probably more all before i got my license. After i got my license, i drove it for 4 days and then the tranny went out. im not the auto trans expert, so i figured by buying a whole nother trans i would take care of whatever had gone wrong....so i got a trans from a guy in chicago for $65 out of a wrecked car identical to mine, after a few days on the cold garage floor i got that trans in, put the car down, started it and still, nothing. got mad, left it for awhile then came back and thought, maybe the torque converter is bad and i had another, so i dropped the trans once again and switched them, got it back in and guess what, still, nothing. towed the car up to b&m. bruce told me that the front pump was bad and it would cost 500 to replace it + labor. and that didnt guarantee that would fix it. i am not putting anymore money than i have to into this thing to get it going.....

Ahh...that must have been your DSM I seen down at B&M. Bruce is a great guy and the only one we trust with our auto transmission work at Slo Pny. THe stuff gets pricy sometimes, but it's just the nature of the automatic beast and the price of parts to repair them.
We have a working automatic transmission from a 1G TURBO FWD car here if you are interested. I can't tell you if they are different between turbo and non-turbo models though. I would think that if your car has a NT 2.0 then a turbo trans should bolt right up. Good luck with your curse...I know how it is -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

i might sell the car if the price is right...i just have too much into it to let it go for real cheap
and yes thats my car sittin at b&ms...i really need to tow it back. my car is the 2.0, and im thinking i read somewhere that they used 3 trans, one for the two non turbos, a stronger version for the turbo, and then of course the awd one...so it should work. how much are you wanting for it? |

If it helps, the manual N/T and manual turbo transmissions are interchangeable as far as boltability. I've read otherwise but actually seen N/T manuals go onto turbo cars and then a turbo manual go on the same car the next day.
From that, I'm extrapolating that the turbo auto FWD trans would also work on a 2.0 auto. Of course, keep in mind that that is a bit of gueswork. But I would guess that Marcus's tranny should bolt up. The good thing there is that the durability of the turbo transmissions is better so you might have some better luck there if it all plugs in. -------------------- |

well if it bolts up it should work then. i dont see how the connectors could be different, but however im sure a turbos tcu has different shift points than a n/t. are these cars limited slip or something like that or is it just an open differential? that could be a difference between a n/t and turbo too. im dont really know how you would tell on a fwd...but if its like a rwd, my car lit both tires up...i remember a time when i had the smoke rollin in front of the windshield and i couldnt see,
haha, probably why my tranny broke ![]() |
