So I finally decided to pull off the failing Small 16g I rebuilt after noticing it had almost a half inch of thrust play and the compressor wheel was kissing the housing. This didn't even seem possible to me, the thrust bearing isn't even close to that thick. Upon pulling it apart the little sheetmetal spring that pushes the steel thrust assembly against the thrust bearing had failed. So, everytime I shifted, the the wheels were traveling back and forth a good half inch. I'd post pics if I had a digital camera. Not really sure why it failed, I must have put it together wrong or something. The actual bearings were fine, and there were no signs of oil starvation.

In its place now resides a brand new Evil III 16g from KOU.
