www.howstuffworks.com then select tuners.

My favorite quote "Once the right engine is bolted in, another decision has to be made -- turbo or super? " I asked myself the same question when I bolted in my engine..... rolleyes.gif

Interestingly enough, I found absolutely no mention of DSM's, Evo's, or even Mitsubishi. I guess the dsm isn't as much of a 'tuner' car as a scion or oh god...Focus....they actually said focus....

I like this one.

"Tuners also stand out by virtue of their style. Flashy neon colors, vinyl graphics, large ornamental wings and ground-shaking sound systems are all as much a part of the tuner scene as turbocharged engines and lowered suspensions."

Generally speaking, tuners in the truest sense of the word, forgo the flashy stuff and get straight to the actual tuning (ie. engines and suspensions) The rest of that brickabrack just adds weight and unwanted attention. Walk softly and carry a big stick.

I typically have someone else carry my stick. I really hate the genre of big wings flashy lights and 23lbs of vinyl on the car. I'm all about having that junky looking old car that will sit up and beat the piss out of a fancy new ghetto sled.

Of course, I wouldn't mind upgrading to "really clean old car". biggthumpup.gif

what a great quote!

I prefer my car to be tasteful, not flashy.... these people are probably the type that drive a Jaguar or a Lincoln LS and have never touched 85% of the car's potential, only drive it for the name.

these people probably never talked to "tuners" they probably just watched "Fast and Fictious" and went to SEMA shows and thought that this is what it is all about.

God I hope flash isn't important!! Between the hail damage and the rust hole in my fender, I'm screwed!

I tell people now that the dimples in the bodywork make it go faster and farther like a golf ball!!!

336 normally, but anywhere between 300 and 500 depending on the manufacturer of the golf balls

Unfortunately, Ricers are being more confused with tuners as the years go on, thanks to the F & F movie. I encountered it earlier this week... with DSMers even. I was at a car show Sunday that had both import and domestice, new and old. There were more domestics, but the imports/ sport compact cars were there to make a presence. There was a kid in with a SRT-4 revin' his stock car to almost redline so people could here is stock exhaust and BOV. Then, I spotted a few 2G DSM's, an Evo, and 2 massively turbo'd Civics. I thought to myself, I should go check 'em out and see what's what. Welll, unfortunately, the first one I talk to is a kid with a 2G GS-T and a few mods. I hear him talkin' to other people about listenin'n to blow off valves and how other car's BOV's sound in other cars. Out of all those import buffoons I talked to one kid who had a seriously well built GS-T. One... out of about 7 or 8. 12.5%... of import "tuners." Not good.

Just my take on it.
