OK, so the first batch of oily shop towels through the laundry wasn't popular. I ran it myself and all and tried to be generous with detergent, second rinse and all that domestic crap - but the washer still smelled, etc. Anyone got a good solution? God knows I'm gonna have a ton through this weekend.
Thanks! -------------------- ... she likes bein' forced ...

This weekend's gonna be crazy and I'll really not get goin' probably before Sunday later (which sucks). I'm gonna try to make that change. But Friday and Saturday nights are out until very late (10ish+). Sunday noon-4ish out as well. I have no idea where on Saturday I'll get something done yet.
PM me and when I get back I'll give you my cell #. -------------------- ... she likes bein' forced ...

If you have to wash them, do it at the laundramat. Amonia does a real good job of cutting through grease (just don't use it with bleech). I put a cup of amonia in the washer with any of my clothes that have seen duty in the garage, and it does a great job of cleaning the grease without fading colors.

There is NO way I would even attempt to wash my shop wrags after I'm done with them. They are usually oil sopped, grease gunked and full of metal bits from cutting or grinding. I get both the cheap paper towels and the red shop towels for better absorption and longevity. I throw them all away.

I donate my old shop towels to my father-in-law... he works at the Air gaurd and has a hookup that professionally cleans them.

At best case I "recharge" them with a crapload of Tide and water in a 5gal bucket. I wouldn't put that junk throught anyone's washing machine. If I'm comfortable putting a shop rag in the wash, I haven't used it enough.
