QUOTE (mitsu90 @ Feb 20 2006, 10:33 PM) Transaxle: 2.4 qrts Transfer Case: 0.5 qrts Differential: 0.9 qrts 2.4 quarts just doesn't seem like enough fluid for the trans, thought it was closer to 4 quarts..... and .9 quarts, is that for the rear diff??? -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

2.4 sounds right to me. I've never needed 4 quarts to fill a trans.

Yes GSXRaycer, 0.9qts is for the rear diff.

it's def about 3.5 quarts for the trans and I'm thinking 1.3 for the xfer case. I usually always buy 4 quarts for the trans and 2 for the xfer case. between spills and periodic checks and the associated spills inherent there, I think that's about the right amount to purchase.
now the type of fluids is a whole nother ball of wax. Personally, I use penzoil syncromesh in the trans and redline heavy weight shockproof in the xfer case and rear diff. Though I've heard that the lightweight shockproof is better in a colder climate like ours (during the winter obviously), and I've seen all sorts of recommendations on the trans fluid. I've heard from darryl that MTL redline pits the gears, though I've heard from others that a mix of MTL and syncromesh is best. GM syncromesh used to be what everybody used if they didn't want to pay 16 a quart for BG syncroshift from RRE. Now there's BG syncroshift II that's even pricier, and pretty much everybody that I've heard from says it's not worth the extra money. There's also a thread on the dsmlink board that covers fluid selection in the trans and xfer case from guys running significantly faster than I am. -------------------- my cars breath smells like car food

is this a typo????
Differential Procedure Park car on level ground Climb under car (don't jack up) to be able to get at the differential and find the fill plug (24mm) and the drain plug (24mm), see picture Place the pan under the drain plug and then remove the plug. Remove the fill plug. When done draining replace the drain plug Using a similar setup as to the Transaxle refill (see picture), fill the transfer case with the GL5 gear oil. We found that snaking the tube down through the passenger rear tire wheel well to the differential allows an easy path to filling the differential. Remove the fill tube and let whatever excess drain out of the transfer case fill plug. When it quits, replace the fill plug they are saying to fill the t-case with GL5 fluid, when they are talking about the rear diff??? WTF??? also in the previous paragraph, they said to fill the t-case with GL4 fluid for the T-case service -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

ok, if I am not beating on my car and just occationally getting on it, is there an advantage to the redline oil or would the standard GL4 gear oil be sufficiant... kinda like if you have a race only small/big block chevy in a race only car, you might have to upgrade to a 20W-50 race oil, but in a street car, you can accually do more damage than good
