I am on my friends account and I am looking at buying an eclipse and I would like to know what are some of the problems that you have had and at what miles.

ya tis true, but if someone needs to ask what breaks and at what mileage it would seem they dont want to have to work on it and it probaly isnt gonna be a car theyre gonna enjoy
 I love DSMs i just dont find them to be very reliable/idiotproof. O ya i live in a circle house so im fresh out of corners.

Head gasket at 26,xxx and then a rod bearing at 31,343(still recovering from that one). I am going to say that my results, just like a weight loss infomercial, are not typical. I had an early bout with lean air fuel ratios that caused the head gasket and it was likely continued abuse that cooked the rod bearing

Researching an area of interest thoroughly before diving into it financially seems little more than responsible to me. But I suppose the "if he won't walk blindly into this, then he doesn't want a DSM" attitude is what you're going for, then by all means, you are correct.  Basically, these cars have been known to break at various times for various reasons. They have long been known for turning average drivers into professional mechanics, and their owners still love them. When you have specifics on a vehicle that you're considering purchasing, it's easier to say "fix this, adjust this, and take that out and throw it away". I guess you just need to be prepared to make a good effort towards keeping it on the road, unless you have the convienience of it being a secondary "garaged" car.

i guess a better way to say it is i dont think ive ever had a DSM that either 1.)wasnt broken when i got it. 2.) wasnt broken shortly after i got it.
