In car vid: http://www.slooser.com/Haan/7.70@191.wmv

Outside car vid: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...48285920794981

AWESOME new best for the Shep!
Did you watch the tack continually sweep up towards 11 grand?!?! Power band between 8 and 11k! Wow...

After watching the first video some folks including myself were unsure what Shep was using for a transmission. I do know that a year ago when I traveled to a few NOPI events to help Darryl Hudson, Shepard was running a stock interior from the back of the front seats forward, including door cards and the stock appearing manual shifter. I wasn't sure so I called Darryl to see what's up because it looks like some ratchet shifting is going on.

The verdict...It's not.

Shep is NOT running one of his rebuilt tranny's though. He is running an aftermarket DogBox transmission. It still has the same standard 'H' shift pattern that the stock Mitsu tranny has though. Being a DogBox makes more sense why he can shift it so fast, but that's still awesome for the standard shift pattern.

As for the ominous blue handle that he moves forward at launch. It is a hydraulic line lock for the brakes so that he can pre-load the clutch. If you watch closely you'll note that he begins moving before the blue handle is all the way forward. If you keep watching the blue handle, you never see his hand on it after he is going. You only see the handle bob up and down in the picture as the car jumps each time he shifts.

On a side note this 7.70 run was at an Import vs. domestic shootout. Shepard had the fastest car on the property that day. The Mustang beside him ran a 7.9x from what Darryl is telling me.

The bad news is John down shifted from 3-2 twice during this event and blew his engine.

Strangley - He is working on a ratchet type of shifter for the future.

Yeah I think he got other things on his mind (Obviously) because the tack is still cranked over to 10k with the chute pulled. happy.gif

Looks to me like it idles at 3,000, launches around 7500, and shifts near 10-10500. When he pulls the chute it looks like it's closer to 9-9500 to me, but still, that's incredible RPM for the 4G63. Woot woot!!

Darryl was telling me he tries to shift at 11 to 11,500 RPM!!! I asume they get the actuall numbers from the logs. But it's way up above even the 10k max I thought they ran them at.
