NOOB HERE NEED HELP Options

hey guys alright im new to the whole 4G63t motors and allthis stuff but it seems fun as hell so i just picked up a 1992 talon tsi for 500 buck runs good some minor work but i was told it had an evo 8 block. so my Q's are.

What are the diffs between all the 4G63t motors.?
Are all the bolt patterns the same does old 4g63t stuff fit new stuff?
How do i tell if its an evo 8 block?
Can i swap the cable tranny for a hydrolic one from an evo?



Please someone need advise.

Some one else will have to chime in here with direct experience.

My take on it is that the blocks are probably the same on the inside, but I can not imagine that all the bolt hole are in the same place on the outside since the engines are turned 180 degrees in the EVO with the cylinder head turned around to keep the exhaust ports facing forward.

Even if the EVO block does work, the EVO transmission is made to mount on the driver side of the engine bay. So unless someone went to major feats to turn your whole engine arangement around, the transmission in your 1992 DSM must go in on the passenger side of the engine bay. You best bet for upgrading is to set it up with EVO 3 gearing or an automatic if you dont like to shift. The EVO 3 had the same engine config as the DSM. I believe that it is still cable shifted but with stronger gears and double synchros it's the best thing this side of a DogBox.

FYI- A re-man EVO 3 trans is in the neigborhood of 1700-2500 depending on what you want. You can have the stocker rebuilt with new synchros here locally for under $350 if you take it out and put it back in.

I highly doubt your car has an Evo 8 block. Like Kicks said your engine would be on the passenger side instead of the driver side if someone actually pulled that off. Its possible it has a Jap block out of an Evo 1-3 in it which is exactly the same as the US block.

alright well here is what im trying to do i just want to build it and make it run 11s treet legal. im wondering if i get the synchros done will the tranny hold up to that power. so if its the stock motor its a 2.0 right so i wanna stroke it to like a 2.3. and build the head bigger turbo all the goodies. im just wonding if that motor is worth building.

Running 11's street legal isn't necessarily going to require a stroked motor and built head. You need to focus on exhaust, intercooler, fuel & management, and a turbo upgrade. A possible path for you may be:

Evo3 16g (Very nice turbo for these cars)
Decent sized FMIC with hard pipes
MAF Translator Setup
650cc injectors
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator

A fresh tranny build will take this power without much in the way of trouble. 'Course, that depends on how launch-happy you become. Just some stuff to think about.

visit buschur racings web sight, and go to there staged up grades. if i remember correctly there upgrades are a little dated, due to the fact that there car was built years ago, and tech. is a little better that then, and you get alittle more in the way of power. But none the less this should give you a pretty good base line for what the car can do.
