I cranked up the Talon today and got her out on the road. The first trip around the block was nice and easy working everything back into the groove. On the second trip, I got on it from a slow roll... AWESOME. Nose pointing in the air and the engine sreaming bloody murder down the high way! Love it.

So I was thinking an AWD 12.0 pump gas car might fair pretty well at the strip this time of year. Anyone else interested in going if the weather is ok?

Hmm I thought Cordova was closed at this time of year....

If I can get someone to sign the release waiver for me I'll be there in the Cavalier for my 1st pass ever smile.gif

Official word from Scott at Cordova...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT 309-654-2110

9th ANNUAL HANGOVERFEST
SET FOR NEW YEARS DAY, JAN 1st

The HangoverFest is a winter wonderland of drag racing at Cordova Dragway Park, Cordova, Illinois and is on Thursday, January 1, 2009. Cordova Dragway Park is one of very few race tracks in the northern United States to race in the middle of the winter.

For the most part all out race cars are not the norm as mostly those with street cars, trucks and motorcycles race and it’s a great chance to see friends and wish them a great new year on what is traditionally a day when people sit around at home. In addition, there will be a free gift to the first 500 through the gates plus free aspirin for those who might have partaken too much on New Year's Eve.

Gates are scheduled to open at 10:30 AM (Thursday, Jan 1) with racing underway at 11 AM. Test-n-tune (racing) is $20 and is open for everyone. For those who want to come out and watch it's only $8 for a pit pass. The heated Interstate Batteries Cafe will be open with food and beverage. For more information visit us on the web at www.cordovadrag.com

Whew! I'm beat, but it was a great day!

I was wearing thermal under wear, three shirts two pairs of socks a Car Heart Jacket and a stocking cap and staid relatively warm... Especially considering my car was the only one out of us three that had heat! ph34r.gif

Dan brought out his recently reassembled and radically cammed TA and Josh towed his Turbo Fox body there after a little coaxing on my part.

Josh won a trophy for the best looking car at the event. Very cool.

My theory that an AWD car would have an advantage at the drag strip this time of year really paid off. I ended up having the quickest and fastest times of the entire day. True, there were a lot of trucks and other daily drivers. However there were also alot of powerful muscle cars and race cars that just couldn't get traction to lay down anything better than mid 12's. The majority of those attending were posting times in the 13 second bracket and above. Neither Josh or Dan could get traction long enough to lay down a full pass. I'm happy to say all but one person was smart enough or lucky enough to get out of the gas before hitting a wall.

Last Spring or summer my best pump gas run was 12.0 @ 118mph on 24 to 25psi boost. Today, my best run was a 12.099 @ 119.8 at 24 psi on pump gas. I was pretty jacked.

So today proved my theory that these AWD DSM's will perform well any time of the year in almost any drivable conditions.biggthumpup.gif

I made a 15.0@108.95 mph, spinning the tires with authority in every gear.. I litterally spun the rears through the traps at the end of the quarter. NO BS.

My next run, I lowered the tire pressure and did the same thing, save for missing third.. once I found third, I continued to make smoke, all the way to the end, but still got a 14.0 at 101..

Im thinking my trap speeds may be north of 110 now.

I got word back from Scott at Cordova... I did have the fastest MPH of the day at 119.80, but apparently someone must have busted off an 11 second ET. Oh well, half the glory is better than none.

I'm still stoked because my 60 ft on that run was a 1.964 with the All Season Sumitomo's shreading all the way through first gear. My 11.8 run last summer was on a 1.91 60ft. So the Talon is pretty consistent regardless of the weather. Then again maybe it's easy to be consistent when your 60's are that crappy and your ET's are a half second off where they should be for the MPH. rolleyes.gif

Big biggthumpup.gif to ya, Kicks!

Josh got a trophy for having a fast looking car, and you had the fastest car? No trophy for you?

Way to start off the new Year, fellas!
