they upload isn't setup right somehow, but you can link offsite to avatars no problem. Just set your avatar as URL instead of upload.

I have a script on my webserver to do it. But you have to have a webserver that supports php. It basically looks in a set directory and just chooses an image based on random number (think i have 20 images in there, so it picks a number between 1-20) then sends it out. So the file myavatars.gif, is actually a php script named as a gif so forums, etc see it as an image (if you want to get technical lol)
