aright guys, here is the situation:
the car doesn't want to go in gear when its started. no gears, it refuses to go. if I shut the car off, I can put it in gear. If I start the car while it is in gear, the car just starts moving as soon as I crank the motor even though the clutch is depressed. I just installed the bm lsd insert and a act 2100 with a resurfaced flywheel. We filled the tranny with 2.5 quarts of pennzoil syncromesh aka gm syncromesh. During the install, we had a HARD time with the slave cylinder installation. It was just a tight fit. Yea I know its not supposed to be a biggie, but it was. Im thinking maybe the problem is either the slave cylinder or the throw out bearing. when I press the clutch, I can see the lever move. During the install, I made sure the rod didn't come out all the way, so that I wouldn't have to bleed the clutch system. I think out of the two its most likely the throwout bearing. What do you guys think? |

A lot of guys have problems with the length of the slave cylinder rod after an aftermarket clutch install. Sounds like your problem. Go to the hardware store and find a piece of steel rod about the same diameter as the slave cylinder rod, and start experimenting with different lengths.

There are a few cheap tricks you can try. Like Rob said, a long slave cylinder rod. You can screw out the adjustable master cylinder rod some underneath the dash. You can shim the clutch fork pivot ball, but that requires pulling the transmission again. I tried all these tricks and ended up installing a new master cylinder to finally solve the problem in the end.

ive done some searching and ive found other possibilites:
clutch lever throw out bearing release fork and pivot ball or the clutch pedal linkage adjustment. i found this on rre's website, i think i should check this. ![]() the only thing is, out of the three, i dont know which one it is. How am I going to find out? |

I never noticed a difference with a longer slave cylinder rod, I think that only matters if you're bottoming out the travel of the slave cylinder. The clutch pivot shimming helped quite a bit, but my pedal assembly is really worn out, so I blame that now.
You might also try flushing the system and putting new fluid in. -------------------- Eric Wort
