I may be looking for a newer daily driver, and i want to stay in the DSM world so i may get a 2G N/A. I know all about the 7 bolt crankwalk, but what about the 420A motors? Are they a pretty decent platform motor to throw a turbo at later on in the future? I think Temp Me 96 has one. what kind of difference is there between the mitsu and chrysler motor powerwise or reliablity?

QUOTE (94laser @ Jan 26 2004, 02:28 AM) i want to stay in the DSM world so i may get a 2G N/A. IMHO 2g NA is definately NOT in the realm of DSM's. With that engine, you'd be in better company with the Neon crowd. All your engine power and reliability questions can be answered there. -------------------- my cars breath smells like car food

ha, ive seen a naturally aspirated 2g 420A LOSE to a neon. Some people would argue the other side but, IMO it's easier just to buy a 2G turbo right off the bat. Save your money

I didnt realize they are that slow. I was just looking for a daily driver that i could put 15k+ miles a year on and not have to deal with breaking parts. I really want a 1G AWD, but i wont have the money for a rebuild or new turbo if they need it, and the bad thing is if you lose your turbo, the car is basically undriveable. Most of them out there have 140K on them so it will be needing done im sure before to long. It would be a crime to put a ton of miles on such a nice car anyways. AWD would be great for my winter driving though, fwds arent as good as people think they are. I will probably just have to keep the slow laser just cause i have so much money in it and i wont get anything out of it if i sold it. I would have to get 2K for it to be able to have the money for a AWD and i dont think i will be that lucky. I was just checking cause i seen a 95 talon with a 5 spd and moonroof i assume has the 420A motor in it for 2500 bucks, i just wanted an upgraded daily driver.

I really only would want a 2G cause they look good, but i know of the crankwalk and i would have to do the 6 bolt conversion, so i will save that as a after college project car.

If you just want reliable, the 420A is a good reliable motor. Problem being when you want to modify it. I bought my 92 GST for $1500. I had to talk the lady down from $2500 and she would've taken less so it is possible to find one. It had 145k on it when I bought it and it was always (still is from what I hear) a good car. I drove that car all through the winter and never had a time where AWD would've saved me from getting stuck. As for insurance, I've been in three wrecks, had two tickets in the last two years and my insurance is 100 a month (liability only). What it comes down to is it's all in what you want. If you want reliability that 2g you were talkin bout sounds like a good deal. If you want a little quickness in your car, don't be afraid to hunt through the classifieds, autotrader, and every other place to find a good deal on a turbo 1G. The deals are out there, you just have to find them. BTW, I bought my 91 for 500 bucks. Good luck
