Well this story is long and quite funny if you aren't me. For a while now I've been wanting to be OBD something. My Galant is factory OBD1/2. I knew the only way to make it right was an ECU swap. Since my car uses a 95 CAS I knew that a 96 ECU would be my best bet.

My initial thought was to make a converter harness for it, but I had no luck finding the pinouts for a 94 galant GS. I decided my best bet was to rip out my wiring harness and install a 96 eclipse wire harness. All of that was bought and I prepared for the swap this weekend.

I started ripping out my factory wire harness Saturday morning at around 9. I finished getting it out around 4 and started running the new one in. At that point I had to call it a day because my friend (and ride) needed to go. One day burned, but I figured I can finnish tomorrow and all will be good.

Started in on it this morning but ran into a road block at the relay/fuse box under the hood. My galant connector wasn't even close and the wire colors were even worse. I go on to other things and eventually that problem comes back to bite me. I have to use the old harness. I decided a converter harness was doable at this point since I have both sitting in front of me. I start matching things up and before long I notice that the pins are always in the same spot. I pick up the connectors and holly crap they are the same. The only difference is that my galant only has 3 plugs and the new one has 4. After looking at the pinout sheet I have I quickly noticed that the smallest plug, the one I'm missing, doesn't really do anything important.

I figure what the hell right. I run out with Frank(I was doing it at his house) and we start pluging things back in real quick. 15 minutes later we have the harness back in, slopily. I grab my old ECU. He figured something would be wrong, but it fired first try. I plug in the turbo ECU with one section blank. I yell at him to unplug the MAS so I don't have to futz with the SAFC. Son of a bitch it starts up first pop.

I had just enough time to drop in my 720cc injectors and I was off. She's running like a top now. biggthumpup.gif

Think that's scary, I didn't tell you guys the best part. I drove home to Peoria from Gridley with one seat, no center consol and every wire from the wiring harness running around front by the connector. There's wires everywhere. The ECU, TCU, and MPI relay are laying side by side on the passenger floor. ohmy.gif My kinda car biggrin.gif

Regardless I'm still impressed with anyone who takes on the task of rewiring the whole car. Nice find on seemingly plug and play swap between the ECU's then.

Cool! Good catch. Reminiscent of my '90 to to '91-'94 harness swap. That was more for engine reasons than ECU reasons though.
