Looking at putting a 2g MAS on my 1g.

What are your opinions of the 2g MAS vs a GM MAFT?

I've read that it's possible to run a 2g MAS without fuel control to some extent, anyone tried it?

I had one on my car for a while.
its almost mandatory to have some sort of fuel control (SAFC)
I put it on my car with a 16G and 650's and it ran like poo until I adjusted the AFC.

The MAFT you can vent and it will gain minimal spool time with it too, but its a lot more expensive than the MAFT
The 2G is cheap as hell though and a very good and easy replacement to the easily overran 1G MAS.
I used the stock 2G airboot to the turbo and just modified it with a piece of mandrel bent pipe I had laying around and a couple hose clamps

I've never tried it, but I've heard many people have had good luck with 2G MAS and 550 injectors without any fuel control. The MAFT is nice because the GM MAF is capable of flowing more than the 2G MAS and you can do some fuel tuning with the translator.

A 2g MAS would have pleanty of flow to handle a 16g though, wouldn't it?

I ran a 2g mas on my galant with no problem. They will flow enough for 400hp unhacked. The problem with running a 2g mas with no fuel control is that the hz output curve of the 1g and 2g are not the same. The 1g is more linear and the 2g flattens out as the airflow gets higher. This means that at higher RPMs the 2g will show less air and you are more prone to knock. That's what I saw on my VR4 when I ran the 2g mas and no other control.

Does anyone have any experience with the HKS super AFR vs the Apexi S-AFC?

From what I can tell there is more information out there on the AFC than the AFR but that doesn't mean you can't try it.

I've noticed that, and that's part of the reason I'm asking. The AFR can be found for pretty cheap though.... perhaps it's enough to tune a 2g MAS on a 1g?
