Well I installed the new (used) 1G throttle body and after adjusting the throttle cable and BISS and everything the idle was alot smoother although still rough. After all that was done I took it out for a drive to see if it was any better on the road and it still drove the same. When you are off the gas or just cruising at a steady speed the car seems like it is cutting out and is real jerky.

At one point I take off slowly from a stop sign till I get across the intersection and then I put the gas to the floor to build up about 5 psi just to see if everything is sealed up ok and all of a sudden I hear this horrid sound. My first thought was that one of the wheels in the turbo was rubbing. I sounded like what it would sound like if you were to spin the compressor wheel of a turbo when it was slightly touching the housing only much louder. I drove around for another minute and kept tapping the go pedal and when it would get up nesr 0 on the boost gauge I would hear it and then it would slow down and go away. When I got back home I listened under the hood and the sound was coming from the intake man so I am assuming that the intake gasket is blown. Have any of you had that happen? Is that what it sounds like? Would that cause my boost gauge at idle to read 5-6 in Hg of vacuum?

Also I am hearing what sounds like a rod knocking at idle but it goes away, or at least you can't hear it anymore when you give it gas. I have had a car that had a rod knocking and it would get faster and louder with gas not go away. It does not sound like lifter tick, it is a deeper sound. Any ideas?

I also had oil all of a sudden start leaking out of what appeared to be the oil supply line. I shut the car off and tightened that maybe 1/8th. I am not sure if that was it because it was leaking pretty profusely (about 1 drop every second or two) but when When I started the car again it was no longer leaking even after about 5 min. of running.


Adam...........could you take you compression tester to work tomorrow night so that I could use it.

Could the knocking you hear be in the tranny? I have that same problem and mine seems to be coming from the tranny.

Could it just be nasty lifter tick that's making the knocking? If I were you I'd pull off that intake manifold and put on a fresh gasket for good measure. I still think only half the gasket is in there. If that is the case there may be a piece lose and fluttering in your giant boost leak wacko.gif

may be a bad timing belt tensioner also... I've heard that those can sound like a cross between lifter tick and a rod knock when they collapse.

I noticed today that my UICP collapses as the RPM's increase, basically to the point that it touches on the inside. I have only seen it expand before. What may be causing this?

I know a hard pipe would solve the collapsing but I don't want to put a band-aid in a broken bone, I want to fix the cause of the problem.

Wow sounds like poopy! Can't say that I've ever heard a car make that noise before but I definitely wouldn't attribute it to part of the intake. It almost sounds like something is caught in the intake and the motor is trying to suck it in but can't.

The fact that the intake pipe is collapsing is not good at all. For some strange reason there is some major vaccum draw on that pipe and you've got to figure out why.

Is there anyway that something could be between the turbo and the place where the uicp is collapsing? A paper towel or something used to prevent shavings left in by accident? I know that I have done that once and had to pull the J pipe off sad.gif.
