I was asked today about a t-5 that needed built up for a project a guy I work with is doing.. Several folks have mentioned Josh as the go-to guy for this and I have to agree.. Having had a half dozen plus trannys done by him and not a single failure I have to say Ive had nothing but great luck with his work.

That being said, is he still in the business on building a mustang t-5?
Is the add at the top of the screen still current?

His name is Adam.. He is in the process of swapping a 04 cobra engine into his saleen.. finally a saleen that is actually fast!.. I can see his concerns about the tranny though.. I dont know what a stock t-5 is good for, but with the power he wants to build, I would beef up everthing I could before putting it together.

Costello... wow... anyway... Why go to the expense of that transplant just to toss a T5 in it? If the car makes any kind of power, as it should, it will fry the t5, built or not. A Viper T56 would be the way to go on that car.

OTOH, I believe Josh still rebuilds/builds, so I'd give him a call. Adam just has to understand that regardless of the job that Josh does, the T5 will fail eventually.

My bad..

T-56 is the transmission that he is looking to beef up.

If that's the case, he may be in good shape... there are a lot of fast cars out there running the T56 at huge power levels. But, if he really wants to drop the coin...

I believe a T56 is stock in Corvettes. Handling bone stock 400hp is not a bad start, if you ask me.

Different T56's have come in different vehicles for the last 14 years or so... the one in the Viper is reported to be the strongest, but that may be due to it's OE application. Regardless, it should work. They came in 93+ F-bodies, Vettes, Vipers, Cobra R (01?), etc. Strong trans, I wouldn't worry about it as the weak link.

I would definately say that the T56 from the Viper or the Tremec TKO would be the way to go for his build...

the viper one would most likely be the best, as it's got the most torque stock of anything out there, something like 450 ft/lbs.

as far as i know the vettes (at least the newer ones) all use a transaxle setup, not an actually tranny.

Correct. the trans is odd in the c5 vettes, using a driveshaft of sorts to transfer power to a rear-mounted tranny.

I said rear-mounted tranny... cool.
