OK guys, I've been busy buying a house, refinishing it's floor, Setting up for a new job, finishing up projects at my old job, and getting car parts repaired for my Talon...
Now it's time to take some time and enjoy the fruits of our labors. Who all is going to Cordova this Sunday? There is no sign up required but I'd like to caravan up with whoever is leaving from the Peoria area. I still need to install my rebuilt cylinder head that will be finished up Wednesday or Thursday as well as a '92 transmission that will also be going together the same time. Assuming things go better this time I will be driving up to Cordova with my dad in his now Supercharged Miata and a friend of his from Mitsubishi that has a new EVO. We are thinking of leaving from the Paradice Casino parking lot as you guys did before. I'm thinking about leaving about 8:30AM to get there around 10ish when the racing is supposed to start. That is unless some one has already planned a meeting place and a caravan. BTW-If there is any particular meeting place better than others in the Casino parking lot, please fill me in because that is a large lot. I plan on going if i can get my car done i am still havin trouble with my clutch
I got a new act clutch but it wont engage so i replaced the master cylendar and that was not it so if any one wants to help or give me advice on what to do or if u think u know what the problem is please call me at 3696395 my name is chris garner thanx -------------------- Up and running. Yeah, now that I have slicks and enough fuel mods I might be able to just barely brush 11's, but I'll probably be stuck at mid 12's all day.

Kris, Yes im sure i bled it right, me and the detuning specialist did it so that might be why its still screwed but i ordered the slave cylider from auto zone and it will be here tomorrow. If that does not work its back to taking the trannie out again or putting my 45 caliber to good use what does every one think?

the way i see it, is do it the way you want the first time. this spring, the auto talon will kick ass. it will be worth the wait -------------------- I sold my dsm, and all the parts...I bought a 300z that ran a 15 sec quarter at 91 mph...this sucks.

Well, I didn't make it. A 'quick' timing belt and front case seal job ended up taking far longer than expected and turning into more serious work.
For the second time in a row, I had surpises in my oil pan. Large ones. Sooo, how did it go at the track, fellas? -------------------- my cars breath smells like car food

Well kris ya did not miss much but i have an interesting video of my fan breaking off my car when i went down the track. You guys let me know if you want to see it and i will put it on here. I ran twice. The first time i launched thinking that the tires would spin easy but that did not happen and the car boged down so i got a 14.7 at a 102 mph and to top it all off they paired me up with daryll. He kicked my ass bad!! The second time i ran I took off to fast and spun the tires and i also missed second gear. I ran a 15.0 at a 101.46 mph this is also when the fan decided that it did not want to be with the car any more, anyway I have to say thanx to the guys who helped me get my car back to morton so thanx guys, u know who u r! Also one more log to the fire my buddy dan who drives a cavalier blew up his motor on the way home so we had to stop again. I guess ill have to hope for better luck next time .

I had a great time at the track. Started out untuned on 100 octane running a couple 13.2 second passes at 110-111 mph on 23 psi. Leaned her out a little bit with the translator and lined up next to Image. On the launch he had me by about 2 carlengths because I bogged, but I'm happy to say I pulled past him somewhere near the 1/8 mile mark and beat him...my 12.8 to his 13.6. Good race, buddy, you know I have to give you a little crap after all the talking you do.
 Next few runs, I kept improving as the ECU stopped fighting the translator. I brought my best run down to a 12.5 at 115 mph but I kept on screwing up the launch. Damn sticky tires! Finally I launched her at a higher RPM that I'm usually comfortable with (somewhere around 7K). She hooked and left. 12.1 at 115 mph. Sweet! Time for 11's. Lets turn up the boost. So I turned her up to 25 psi, clicked her one richer on the WOT translator knob and had trouble launching her again. Ran a couple of 12.4's but this time at 119 mph. So I know she has those 11's in her. I just need to practice launching some more and play around with the suspension a bit to get her to launch good. Overall, I'm very happy with how the car is running. BTW, it was awesome to see Darryl run consistent mid 9's!!! Damn, that's fast! |

From the sound of it, a big congrats are in order to Nate and Darryl. Fantastic times, guys. Now what did the rest of the DSM's do? Marcus, Dan, Tommy?
I did find oil squirters in the pan, 2 of them. They were accompanied by a valve spring retainer, but I knew that was there, since I dropped it a while back when doing the springs and retainers. I ended up blocking the holes for the squirters since this is the second time it has happened. I'm not happy with having hotter pistons, but the other options seemed even less appealing. I think it's the combination of stiff motor mounts and balance shaft removal that has caused this problem. Garner, way to blaze the track with those honda scorching times. Very impressive for a de-tuning wizard such as yourself. Maybe someday you'll graduate from the Ranta Academy for De-Tuning Specialism and actually run something that approaches fast. You should have just let someone else drive your car who wasn't so skilled in the art of sucking. I think I've got some fans you can have, since those ones you've got keep falling off at "INAPPROPRIATE!!!!" times. I think Tom got his down to the low 13's. I'll let Dan and Marcus tell you about their cars.
Mike's hatch was damn loud, thats for sure. The best I saw him run was a 14 flat, but he may have done better as the day went on. He definitely seemed to be improving the tune considering his first run was a 16. |

Darryl's car was very impressive this weekend, running mid 9s like clockwork by the end of the day, or at least that's the way it looked from the stands. It sounded mean as hell going down the track.
I was fighting a problem with bogging off of the line with the Buick. I started out running mid 13's on my standard street gas tune, but on my last run I got it to launch somewhat hard to the tune of a 1.73 60ft time and a 12.33 @ 109.96, and managed to beat Nate by cutting an .050 light I didn't get to push the boost up like I wanted to, as I didn't really have enough octane to run it and I don't have a trailer to throw it on if I break it. My Talon made it to and from the track without issue, despite the high speed caravanning action on the way there.Jbone and Spy were there running the red FWDs, not sure what their fastest times were. I don't know the guy with the ultra-clean looking dark green AWD, but it was running some consistent mid-13s. -------------------- Eric Wort

Our car ran a best time of 10.17@139 no nitrous and 9.654@145.14 with the nitrous. I didn't have to turn a wrench the whole weekend. The 3 9 sec passes were something else. The best 60' was a 1.445. The car left the line hard and that was all she wrote. I think there should be some video footage showing up soon.

I just got the photos back from Sunday. I think I got everybody I know. I took most of the shots when the cars were hit with a green light. My shots beat everybody out of the hole.

Kris - BS!!!! No dedication. Seems it was you two that de-tuned the clutch on Chris' car. The slave was installed wrong. Good thing he bought a new master cylinder and slave though. Just wait until you hear the new story about his car. Ask him about the hood today. Not good.
I dynoed Friday and the car ran like crap. Dynoed around 195 whp. I was up all night Saturday driving around to put miles on it. I put around 700 (200 highway) miles on it and got to the track and ran like crap. The open header was LOUD. Made 5 runs, ran a best of 14.1 and said screw it. Came home and looked at it last night. Compression test showed low numbers. No blow by, no oil burning. I looked at the cam gears and thought they were off. They were both retarded a tooth, so I fixed it and it runs great now! I'm going to the dyno Thursday. 200+ whp for sure. -------------------- |

The stock 1996 1.8 liter Miata is supposed to run the quater mile in 16.6 seconds roughly. For reference first gear was nearly unusable unless you let it bog out of the hole and then it's not living up to it's potential. It's full weight plus ground effects and is a blast to drive around the twisties with the new found acceleration! That biotch ripped the tires off all the way through third gear at the track! That was the most fun 15 seconds I ever ran. Hey every one i get the dumbass award this month. I was driving my car yesterday and stoped at my buddys to get my stock front end. we had the hood open and we were trying to see how the front end matched up. Any way to make a long story short i put the hood down and was in a hurry and forgot to lock the hood pins next thing i know the hood comes open at 40mph and now its screwd. Im just not having very good luck lately.

According to this (http://www.clubdsm.com/tools/calchp.htm) it would take 207hp to get his car to 12.8, and that's if it weighs in at 2200 with him in it.
Granted, Species is, (to quote Mr. 'Do You Know Who I Am!' Netter) "the ultimate weight reduction", but I'm thinking his car weighs a little more than that with him in it. I can't remember exactly though, so I guessed at the weight. And for the record, my 12.8 was a shitball pass, and the mastah Tunist knows it, he was sitting in the passenger seat at the time. -------------------- my cars breath smells like car food

LOL, yeah, I'm just giving Kris shit. I know he can hit 11's easily. I just wish he would have made it down to show up everyone. There is a fun day at Cordova this Sat and next Sat though. I think its like $15. I'm goin to try and make it this Sat, but if not ,the next for sure. The weather is the deciding factor.
