I ran into this a couple of years ago with a 350 swapped s10. In my case I was severely burned by the whole process.
My advice after having gone through it is this: Act fast- get a qualifies appraisal of value Have receipts- This goes a HUGE way with the insurance company. If you can document the engine, gauges, anything else with receipts they will add to the value of the car with little arguement. The same goes for receipts for 'tuning' and install of performance parts. Pics of modifications- In my experience they will fight you every step of the way with just that to arm yourself with. Their appraisers tend to know little about modded cars and can't or won't recognize aftermarket parts or assign a value to them. In some cases the appraisers (employed by the insurance company) will actually note them as stock parts removed and deduct from the value of the car. I would start with the receipts, have them ALL in order and bombard them with them. If you don't shoot you back the numbers you want, have a qualified appraiser lined up ASAP. Just my $0.02 -------------------- |
