When replacing the fuel pump in a FWD does the gas tank need to be dropped?

Okay so i have the old pump out and everything set up except for the wiring. Yes it is easy but im wondering if there is supposed to be a peice of rubber or something to cover the wires to make sure that its water (gas) proof to keep it from causing a spark or anything. The old fuel pump had one but the walbro doesnt have one on it....if anyone could help me out itd be great
