Today was a good day. It didn't seem like it would be at first- the last week or so hasn't been very promising with either work or my car.
About two weeks ago, I lined up with a brand new GTO at the track. Pretty ride, very clean, and a respectable 5.7L pushing it down the street. I assumed I had this in the bag, but behold: I take off at the light whilst my counterpart tarried at the line for a moment only to do the most impressive launch I've personally witnessed. Not a chirp nor squeal from my adversary as it shoots forward and along side me before I can react. He never shook me from his door/fender area, but I was still absolutely shocked. Where was that famous top end? Why doesn't the old girl pull like mad above 5K? Something is wrong. At first I wonder about the low coolant light that's on in my dash. Hmmm..... maybe ecu goes into limp mode if that's on? I dunno.... I had forgotten about it quickly, and went on to installing the 650s recently picked up from Nate. I tried them on for size with the car devoid of any sort of tuning. Everything happens as expected: normal-decreased accel through idle and mid, terribly rich at WOT. But now, I happen to glance down at my trusty boost guage and WTF!?!?!?! 27psi!?!?! This can't be right. I had it dialed in at 19 or 20 with no noticeable creep. Why is it dancing up like that? And where the hell is my top end!?!? So I arbitrarily lean out my WOT, and call it a day. Then comes today. I decide to look at my MBC and find out what that little prick was up to. It looks normal: same place it has been, thread count looks right.......vacuum line severed by the fan.......waittaminute. That's not good. In my haste, I must have left too much slop in the line, and she did a little dance with senior cooling fan. I quickly throw a new line on, zip tie all the lines safely away from danger, and head off to work. Glorious Day!!! My top end is right back where it should be!?!?! Things are good. Making my situation even better, I had to stop work at noon due to lack of materials, so I had a half day to do whatever my little heart desired.........such as having some exhaust work done. I quickly went to Naramore's Exhaust and tell them what I had and what I wanted. The went right to work, feverishly cutting and welding on the Goat. The lift lowered, engine started, and the most harmonious mellow, rich sound came from the tailpipe. Not raspy and annoying, but smooth. Good, the leak had been repaired, and a high-flow cat was in place and functioning as planned. But what about the "other" thing I had installed. I'd have to wait until I got home to find out. I rush home and park the car. Out comes the center console, off come kick panels. I produce some wire and a few tools from the garage. Snake the wire around metal, fabric, and rubber to its destination. Make sure all the connections are good. Great. Ignition on. Hit the toggle switch, and to my girlish delight, a small "whirrrrrrrrr" comes from beneath my seat. VICTORY IS MINE!!!!! The 3" electronic cutout from QTP is installed and working VERY WELL!!! It sounds so sick when it's open. It's like a shot of adrenaline every time I hear it. And when I'm done having fun: click, whirrrrr, closed, quiet. A beatiful arrangement. ![]() ![]() -------------------- QUOTE (gsxracer80 @ Oct 31 2006, 12:41 AM)
