After finding my Victory Performance Street FMIC with cracked welds at SCDC I removed it and took it to Eric Vicary. He welded up the entire seem where the core meets the passenger side tank and the split portions at the far end on the passenger end tank. The welds are now thicker and just as clean as the original welds. The price for the repair was a very fair 40 bones with a 2-3 day turn-around. I couldn't have been happier with that.
Friday night I reinstalled the FMIC and started logging. I got roughly five solid 3rd-5th gear blasts at +/-20psi. I was seeing a lot of knock at boost. As I studied the logger I found that my timing was running pretty high as well. NCgalant had eluded to the fact that this would happen when I adjusted the MAFT for such big injectors. So I need to purchase an E-PROM ECU and have the Wotrdogg flash it for my 850's to get this thing under control. I'm running very low on funds but am willing to trade my stock 92 ECU with newer caps plus cash. On the down side I found that the intercooler had cracked the welds on the driver side after those few passes! What a pain in the arss. Vicary told me he didn't repair any other welds from the good ol stand-point of 'don't fix what aint broke' and I agreed with that. He also said if any more welds break that he will just re-weld the entire unit...which sounded agreeable to me even though I didn't plan to need those services. Finally I pulled the FMIC off tonight and to my delight found that even Vicary's heavier weld at the passenger end of the core had re-cracked! WTF!?!?! So I'm going to call Victory Performance back tomorrow and see what they suggest. Probably going to have to send it to them and wait the standard-DSM-shop-wait for it to come back. I drove the car around Saturday with the leaking intercooler allowing about 5psi and it still sounded excellent and had good pull. The engine and turbo are running really good and I am happy for that, but I never would have guessed of having problems with the FMIC like this. Live and learn. Any help on the E-PROM would be MUCH appreciated. Marcus -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo
