Death of a Super 14b Options

Well, as the oily residue on a few vehicles in Peoria and the White mushroom cloud on Pioneer Parkway will attest to...my Super 14b is now D E A D.

I got the large in/outlet side mount on and ported the compressor housing to match my aluminum compressor elbow over the weekend. I also added the bronze shifter bushings at the transmission for further improved firmness.

The car was driving and shifting like a dream. Increadibly the power output and gear transfers became so soft that I wondered if the car was actually going slower! I didn't do any tests, but she was pulling HARD with it's extra breathing capacity. The only two drawbacks I found were that my turbo had gained a bit of rotational shaft play and I now hit fuel cut when the accelerator was mashed in any higher gear at low RPM.

Today in P-town I happend to be right behind a familiar sport bike at a stop light. As the bike began to unwind off of the line I slipped the clutch out slowly to avoid landing on his rear tire. However, when 1st began to near the upper RPMS...BANG! Fuel cut!?! I immediately dropped 'er into second hoping for some improvement. NO CHANCE! All I produced was a five lane wide smoke cloud that enveloped even the two delivery trucks behind me.

Oh well that's how this hobsession goes. Now will I find a cheap 14b to replace this thing with quick or will I go ahead and upgrade to the AGP L2R, leaving the 14b title to be improved by other enthusiasts?

That's a perfect thought Todd, but as any good Murphy's law abiding incident would happen...I already bought and sold that turbo for friends 1G awd!! So that's a no go.

I talked to Josh, who was trying to put together an AGP group buy today. They told him that they DON'T MAKE L2R'S OR L3R's ANYMORE!! They aparently are working with Forced Performance and only make something comparable to the L3 now. Yes that means no dual ball bearing cartridges from them.

So I talked to Turbochargers.com about their Godzilla TD05H and TD06's which are good for 410HP and 430HP respectively. The TDO6 actually spools faster...somewhere in the neighborhood of 2800-3000RPM. They also cost $990 and $1045 respectively but bolt up directly and no other accessories are required on your 1G. The sad fact was that they were excited to tell me they bolted one of these onto a 1995 GST and ran a 12.3! Ummm, I know that's fast for a GST, but common $1000 to run in the 12's!?! This guy seemed to think the best bang for my buck would be a 16G. I don't know... after those last two comments I'm not sure I like this guys advice.

I think maybe I should get a good tight 14b and continue the 'Good Fight'.
