I got the itch to ride again this year like most when spring comes around. I've always wanted a Soft Tail, Low Rider, or Fat Boy Harley, but the expense and fear of crashing usually kept things in check.

Well, this past week I came across and offer on a 1991 XLH1200 Sportster that I could refuse no longer. I know it's not the bike I wanted. I foresee this as a low cost way to get out there and see if I like riding enough to justify the expense of a big bike.

Plus, with gas prices the way they are, the gas savings should offset the small payment even if I ride the bike to work only half the time.

My dad owned this bike for the last 2-3 years. Unfortunately he has no garage so it had to sit outside under a cover most of the time. I'm not one for a lot of polishing so I'm not going to enjoy cleaning the corrosion and disoloration off. However, if I come up with a tasteful idea I may do some radical modifications this coming winter if I find I real like riding.

Here is a picture as is.

Yeah, if that's the bobber look, I like it.

This is what I was thinking of for when I get back...

I think that with a mirror delete and some bbq paint on some choice components, the bike would look fairly sick.
