My last semester of college I did a report on teh WayBack Machine, www.wayback.com. It is similiar to a search engine. It has spiders that crawl over the interenet archiving web urls.
where it differs from a search engine is that actually archives the data on a url as opposed to just the url. the concept is similiar to the cashed version on google. so... why the hell am i tlaking about this on a dsm site right? well, i'm bored as hell and don't have a haynes manual with me to enrich my education. vfaqs... i know many myself included have found the vfaqs to be a love hate relationship. nothing like digging around in the horrible user interface of the site for hours trying to find that lil nugget you were looking for. i have found myself frequenting the site less and less, because once you find that nugget.... well shit, the link doesn't work. what a waste. Well, the vfaqs is now using the wayback machine to recapture the information that was once on those url's. the results are pretty amazing. the number of broken links is down drastically, and i am once again in love. -------------------- game over.
