Well its been awhile since i posted my problem, but i'll tell my story again. Basicly i was going down the road and all of a sudden the car acted as if it was in neutral. it wouldn't go into gear and had to be pulled home. i got a different trans and torque converter, got that installed and it still does the same thing. you can go through all the gears and it will not move anywhere. i figure since the whole trans has been replaced, the only thing left would be the computer. i pulled the codes and it says everything is fine.

When You have the car in park, is the car able to roll? if the parking lock goes into place and the car cant roll I think it would be safe to assume that the trans is okay. someone corrrect me if I am wrong!!!
I dont think this has anything to du with the comp, it sounds like it has more to due with the flywheel or even deeper! -------------------- |

yep it stays in place in park. i put it in reverse and let off the brake and it rolled forward down the hill if that says anything. as for flywheel, i doubt b/c how would it start?

there shouldnt be anything wrong with the flywheel itself, but the torque converter behind it. Im not an auto tranny expert, but my opinion is that is the link between the engine and tranny, and if its not engaging, you wont go anywhere. Is it new or used? Its supposed to have a quart of tranny fluid in it when you put it on. The pump on your tranny may not be any good and not pumping fluid. I believe the only thing the computer controls is shift points, not the mechanical shift from park to drive or reverse. The only thing i can conclude if the tranny is still good, then its either something wrong with the torque converter or lack of fluid.

well it isn't a new torque converter in it, but it is a different one than before, so i really dont see there being two bad torque converters. the pump is on the transmission right? i guess i should pull off one of the hoses and see if its pumping the fluid.

yeah its inside the tranny, make sure your cooler lines arent backwards. Your right its very unlikely 2 torque converters having the same problem, but i guess its possible.

Well its been awhile, but i pulled off the coolant hoses with it in gear and everything and no fluid, i took a funnel and filled up the coolant lines and took about 1/2 a bottle. Ok, so maybe its an air lock, i hook the lines back up and still, nothing. I'm thinking I'm going to have to pull out the tranny and refill the torque converter. that wont be fun. its prob not going to be worth it if it does work b/c now the engine is making weird ass sounds. if you rev it to 3500+ it gets very loud (like your doing 7 grand or more), and when you let off it makes a sound like something dragging i guess. hard to explain. I was wondering, is crank walk a problem on non turbo's? mines a 7-bolt. and i've heard its not as common on automatics, but still happens.

yeah transmissions dont matter on crankwalk. Any 7 bolt, turbo or non turbo can crankwalk. Hmm i hope you dont have a broken crank or anything. Im not sure on what crankwalk sounds like when the engine is running, i never had it happen to me.
If you had the engine running already, there should have been tranny fliud in those lines, there may be something clogged or the pump may not be pumping for you -------------------- 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS- Pretty daily driver

so is the pump electric or mechanical, b/c if its mechanical that means it would need power from the engine, which the trans seems to not be getting...so maybe the torque converter is the cause of everything (other than the sound), but then again, maybe the sound is the torque converter b/c of not being lubricated well enough.

Its mechanical. I would just drop the tranny again, get the torque converter off and put fluid in there and just start again.

And while you have the tranny dropped, push and pull on the flywheel. Hope for the best, but if it noticebly moves at all then you have crankwalk.

Ok, well today i got the old torque converter in. i put a quart of fluid in it. start the sob up and still, nothing. i really am about to blow this thing up. ok well not really, but still. about the only thing better is, is that when you rev it up, its sounds right, not more weird sounds at
3500+. but i am going to go crazy if this thing doesnt ever go into gear! If it were up to me, i would sell it and buy a manual turbo. but my step dad says that if i dont get this car goin, i need to buy some old shitty beater, b/c "you can actually work on them" as he says. And im sure i'd get hardly anything for this car b/c its not moving. i just really wanna keep it or another dsm. sigh |

yeah thats what i am thinkin i'll have to do. but before doing that and having to pay an arm and a leg, i would also like to look at my other options.
how much would it cost to convert to a manual? that would definanty solve my problem and it would be a lot more fun. ![]() how much could i get for this car parting it out, obviously no one is going to want the engine and tranny being its n/t, 7-bolt. but the interior is in decent shape, it has just about all the options, excluding a sunroof & abs. |

You would have much more fun with that, that was my 2nd option with my car. If someone can get you these parts that you need, it would probably cost the same if not less than a tranny rebuild. Check this out for all the info you need
