i was driving along tonight and i got on it in third at about 3000 rpm's and decided it wasnt enough pick-up so i downshifted into second and layed into it then i heard a squelching noise so i let off and gimped her to the closest spot with a street light
i get out and check all of the intercooler lines-intake-blow off lines- and they all seem to be tight so i get back in and take off and now if i go over 5psi i hear a loud whistling noise and i gets louder as the boost goes up, so i gimp it to where i am almost home and i get on it to see if there is any perfermance loss and i didnt feel any loss, but the whistle now starts at 3psi, so i at home now and am at a loss for what i could have done did i just blow off an ic pipe and dont know it?? could there be a hole in the intake?? did i **** up the turbo/wastegate? or could it be just a minor boost leak somewhere?? i am at a total loss and dont want to hurt her any more if i am at all. let me know what you guys think thanks in advance -zack -------------------- Dodge Neon SRT-4

if you have an aftermarket boost gauge, id check the line runnin to it. that sounds a lot like what happened to me. cant be sure thats your problem, but sure couldnt hurt. if that is the problem, like the line is cracked or somethin its a very easy fix, just go to farm and fleet or autozone or something and get some new line. if its all wound up, then use a heat gun aka g/f's hairdryer to stretch it out straight before you put it back on. hope this helps.

Did you install the gauge yourself? If so, you should know the route that the line takes, and just follow the line with your hand. Use a flash light. A hole or crack is usually pretty easy to see.

I would say its a vacuum leak somewhere and not a boost leak. A boost leak would affect performance. But then again so would a vacuum leak. So I dont know.

Are you still getting whatever boost levels you were before? I'm too new to say whether or not you have a problem. But since you didn't install the gauge, just follow the vac hose that attaches to the back of it. Normally they go down through the firewall somewhere right above the pedal assembly and attach to the intake or tb. Now that it's day light just pop the hood and run over every hose. Have a friend start the car and give it enough juice to whilstle while you try and locate the sound. Another option that isn't that bad of an idea to do anyway is just check for intake leaks, talk to awd dsm 1, or check this out, intake leak tester.

its pretty easy to check that line, pull off the gauge and start the car, then get the boost up enough that the gauge is moving, then follow the line until you find a crack/leak. mine was ran up behind the pedal assembly through the hole in the firewall where the steering column goes through and it had appartently been pinched by the clutch pedal and was cracked. i just wrapped it w/ black tape until i got to the store to get new line. black tape will not hold it and will blow off when you get on it, but it will stop the whistling noise. like i said before, heat up the new line to where it is as straight as possible. it came (for me anyway) all rolled up and i broke it tryin to get in unravled before i thought about heatin it up. then what i did was tape the new line to the old line and pull the old line through the cabin of the car till the new line was right there. took me about 10 minutes. good luck and hope this fixes your problem.

when i was putting on my greddy upper and lower IC pipes, we forgot to tighten one clamp on the lower pipe, and after spooling up a few times in the parking lot it blew off and absolutely killed any performance after 25mph. id think that if it was a boost leak that was sounding that loud, you'd hurt your performance bigtime.. i say check your intake since it's happening that early at WOT?

well i pulled off all the intake pipes and ic pipes and they all seemed to be ok and while i was in there i spun the turbo to see if there was any shaft play and there was none whatsoever so i dont think it is the original turbo cause the car has 130xxx miles on it
anyway back to the problem at hand put it all back togethere and the noise is still there, looked at the boost guage and pulled it out and traced the lines and they go by the door jam down to the floorboard and out the firewall, so maybe opening and closing the doot just wore it out, but they seemed to be fine so i am going to stop and grab some hose and rerun that line to see what the hell is the problem, what size line should i get??? the whistling comes alive right after i hit boost at about 3-5psi thanks for the help guys i appreciate it -zack -------------------- Dodge Neon SRT-4

i think i have pin pointed it around where the guage connects right under the hoodby the firewall on the drivers side, it only does it under boost so i cant rev it up and see where it actually is but i think it is in the region where there are a bunch of hoses and stuff that run to the manifold, i have to go to work now so it is going to hold off till tomorrow when i have the whole day off to find it,
the car seems to run just fine and boosts fine it is just and annoying whistling noise that i know something isnt right -------------------- Dodge Neon SRT-4

i wouldnt call it building boost, unless i havent taken it hight enough
but i loose all of my vacuum but i dont think that it techinically gets boost i think it just goes to zero and stays there -------------------- Dodge Neon SRT-4

i went to farm and fleet (dont know if theres one close to you or not) and they had some oil pressure gauges that came with line, so i just looked at that and found they sold that separately. cost me like 10 dollars cuz i broke the line the first time.

aight i am going to go buy some line today and see if that is the problem, the line goes to some kind of regulator before the intake so maybe that thing is broke?? but i am going to try the line first

no its not actually on the intake it is on the firewall and looks kind of like a stock boost controller if that makes any sence
