I know that safety is one of those things that you should be glad to pay what ever for, but I am on a budget and I know that there was someone on here before that had a set of harness' that they posted for sale. if anyone has a harness set for sale I am on the market for a set.

thanks,
Ben

I've got a set of 6 points that are still for sale. $70 for the pair takes them (harnesses are red and in nice shape)

I've never seen 6 point, wow, thats a lot of straps. are they DOT approved??? if I get pulled over and I am wearing a harness that is not DOT approved, can I still get a "no seatbelt ticket"???

As far as I know, SCHROTH makes the *only* DOT-approved harness belts.

Check them out at http://www.soloracer.com/schroth.html

I have used the Rallye 3 harnesses and currently use the Rallye 4s.

This sounds like the harness that Travis bought from me that came off Darryl's old car. The strap is actually a 5-point (with the submarine belt). It is not DOT approved. Drag racing harnesses like this one are only approved for track use for 2 years, and if I remember correctly, this set expired in June or July of last year.

That being said, They are still much safer than ANY factory restraint system. If you are looking to run the car at the track often, you need to get a current set, if you just plan on running at cordova on the 30th, they probably won't even check the date.

As far as harnesses and Johnny Law, I belive that you can get a ticket for a non DOT approved harness, but the odds are slim.

I also belive that you might need a extension to make this set work in a normal car, it was bolted to the roll cage cross bar before, and I don't think it's long enough to reach the floor.

Whoops, late night typo there. These are only 5 point. (think 4 pt harness with a submarine belt). Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not so sure about all that DOT approved stuff but I am pretty sure if you change the seatbelts you have to have the car inspected by an inspection shop. I know the inspection shop on the corner of Morris and Market streets in Bloomington does this (not sure of the name). It was only like 20 bucks to get my grandpa's 1 ton dually inspected and it only takes 15 minutes. If you are going to get harnesses though I would reccomend a simple halo roll cage as well. They dont' really like it if you just bolt the belts to the floor and the roll cage is the best alternative. Make sure you use high grade bolts when securing the harnesses as well (like the ones that hold the seat belt mounts down in the rear seat. TCA in Charleston is the best/closest place to get a cage IMO. They put the roll cage in Mitsu 77's Talon dirt track car for 250 bucks and it's a full confinement cage so you should be able to get outta there pretty cheap.
