ok so as some of you know, i have a REAL job now and make quite a bit of money. i am torn as to what i should do with all that money though. i have narrowed it down to 3 options, but cant decide on which i like best.
1.) keep current 240, buy uncle's Isuzu Vehicross ('cuz its the coolest suv-type vehicle in the world, stock recaros!!!) as DD, and build a jdm 180sx

2.) get rid of current 240 and buy nice s14, then turbo it, no sr20 or nothin, just ka24det-t, OR buy GC8 chassis suby 2.5 rs and swap in jdm ej20det

3.) save for '02 wrx, 300zxtt, 3kgt, rx7, something of that nature

if you have any comments on what is good/bad about these options. thanks

I like the supercars. EVO, STI, Supra TT, RX7/8, 3KVR4, 300ZXTT, etc. However, with all that cheese, consider the ability to build the cleanest do it all dsm in the world. I would personally pick up an RX8 as a DD, and buy Spy's roller to swap my current set-up into.

If the car is paid off then I would just save your money for a while and go with option #3. SUV's are pretty overrated in my opinion, could just be that mine sucks ass though wink.gif I also think that you have the right idea by looking for a used car, with as fast as the value of a new car depreciates now you'd basically be asking them to ass rape you if ya bought one.....just my $.02

My suggestions...

Car payments SUCK. I would much rather buy something that I can pay cash for and then work on, or just save some cash up. One exception would be a brand new car. Although they depreciate, you have a warranty for when stuff breaks. Now if you're like me and change cars as fast as you change your underwear, NEVER have a car payment. There is absolutely no way to get out of them once you start. rolleyes.gif

Other than that, do what you want the most!!

i work at Cat in morton. i would really like the vehicross as a DD. im betting that not many of you even know what those are. (they kinda look like a wrangler and an evo had a child) but my heart is set in sports cars forever. i found a very clean t tops '89 300zx turbo. subarus are my favorite cars, but if i can afford the wrx itself, i WILL get screwed when it comes to insurance. an evo would be good too except for the same reason, plus with the way id drive, i would have to get gas every day. i want something rare, japanese or german, very reliable, roughly 90-99 model year, awd or rwd (unless it ends in type R), and FUN. my 240 is not really fast by any means, but it handles great and is an incredibly fun car. so the hunt will go on. thanks for the comments, keep 'em comin.

The insurance on my Evo isn't that bad at all. In fact, Country Companies, my insurance company, is giving me full coverage at regular Lancer rates with a 4wd safety discount. cool.gif

Hmmmmm my agent never mentioned anything about that either. I'll be calling him very soon.

TSIwrx, IMO I would like to have one in the suby line. If you want a WRX don't buy a 2.5 RS and do a motor swap. This swap was in one of the primedia magazines not long ago and was described much like doing a 4g63 turbo swap into a 2g GS Eclipse. Short story= if you're gonna spend the money just get a WRX. However, I have a good friend working at the local Suby dealership and he enjoys driving the RS over the WRX simply for the throttle response. It's your call

There's a few things you might want to keep in mind.

Figure out your total budget and payments. Is this job just for the summer? If your income is going to fall off during the school year or is only temporary, you might want to look into socking it away and re-evaluating in a few months. Either way, it might be a good idea to follow that path just to have a "cushion" just in case.

As to the Isuzu- Recaros can be had and put into any vehicle so I wouldn't buy it if that is the deciding factor. Unless you do a lot of hauling or routinely have 3 passengers plus (i.e. family guy) then you'll be paying a lot of money and a lot for gas for the larger vehicle that you won't really be using. These are dollars that could be used for speed parts.

The 240- Why sell it just to buy another? I don't get it. Also turbocharging the KA20 isn't really the best option there. There's a reason these guys go with the SR20 swap.

2.5RS Suby- Why all the effort to take the same car as everyone else and 'make it different'? I hope you realize there is a LOT of expense, maitenance, and things that will break when you build one of these custom set-ups. Hopefully you plan on investing similair amounts of money in tools here.

Personally I think you'd be best off saving for that newer WRX in your case. Newer car with fewer things to break. But still a nice turbo AWD vehicle.

As to the supercar category (RX7, 300ZX, etc.)- Keep in mind that you might be able to afford to buy a lot of these cars but not be able to afford to own them. In '96 I owned an older Porsche 928S (mmmm V8 Porsche). It was a classic example of a car that I could afford to buy but not afford to own at the time.

I'd reccomend driving what you've got, socking the cash away, and then deciding in a few months if you're ready to see that bank account dip down as you plow it all into that WRX.

Just my $0.02 though
