Does anybody know if 90 shifter cables will work in a 91-94? I know that the 90's arent adjustable, but I have a set of 90 cables and would like to install them just to run this weekend at cordova! Thanks! BTW- I really only need to swap the cable that puts the tranny into gear(forward and backwards) rather than the one that moves it between gears(side to side). I was thinking about taking the broken 91-up cable out and measuring them up any maybe threading new threads onto it to make it adjustable\the right length?? Thanks again guys!!

we have a set of 90 cables, and a 91 i think.. although it was late, and we didn't really look hard, they appear to be the same length. if that's of any help.

They're actually a '90 and a '92 set. But other than that he's right. From a glance they appeared to be the same length. Which surprised me given that conventional wisdom is to match the shifter cables, shifter, and tranny to the same year ('90 or '91+).
I wouldn't swear to it until I take a closer look at them tonite though as well as checking the adjustability of either/any. -------------------- |

Thanks guys! I'm just gonna rip the 91 cables out of the car and compare them to the set of 90 cables I have. I would think that they would be the same length as when you swap trannies from 90-91up all you need is to change the bracket that the cables bolt to. Also MidwestDSM just installed a set of 91up cables in his 90 and they work great so I would think they would be relativly interchagable. Who knows with a DSM though. With my luck they will install great and then on the way to cordova they will start binding up. LOL!

For future reference the cable that moves the tranny in and out of gear (forward and backward) on a 90 does NOT work with a 91-94 tranny. The one that moves the tranny between gears (side to side at the shifter mech inside the car) is the same size. If you switched the shifter mechanism inside the car im pretty sure it would work though because of the different throws. I just cut apart the new 90 cable and ghetto fabbed it to the proper length, but it shifts 200% better than before.

The bolt I knew about. The pin I was unsure how easily it was removable from the outside of the tranny. Did you actually free the pin and get the entire linkage out?

Did you actually free the pin and get the entire linkage out? well, I didn't have to, Marcus showed me how to do it when I was up there dropping off the trans at SloPny..... I called AWD DSM and asked him about the shifter and he said it was a '91, so lucky me, I don't have to mess with it. -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!
