When replacing the fuel pump in a FWD does the gas tank need to be dropped?
Also anyone who has wired a walbro fuel pump on a 1g if you could pm me it would be appreciated.

It doesn't look like it. Directions look similar to those of the AWD. The FWD link is broken so just use the AWD ones and use common sense. Use lots of PB blaster or WD-40.

The fwd fuel pump is located in a different place than the awd. I was told that i will have to drop the tank to do the job.....the only thing that im worried about right now is wiring the fuel pump.

From what I remember Garner telling me on the FWD's its on the top/back of the tank and you have to drop it. I could be wrong. I haven't looked at it in awhile and forgot. Get underneath and take a look. You'll know right away.

I know where its at and i am aware that i must drop the tank and plan on doing so...the only problem is wiring it....the walbro has two wires coming off of it and i do not know exactly how im supposed to wire them.

Although the questions haven't been answered totally I have to say good job to those that have posted! Exellent.

James got away without dropping his FWD tank all the way. not sure of the details because I've never had the pleasure to do the PIA FWD version. As far as the wires the one ground wire gets grounded to the pump bracket just like the existing and the other gets spliced into the power wire coming in from the top.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong. wink.gif

you got it buddy. from what I have heard you can get away with looseing the straps on the gas tank and not dropping it all the way.

use the VFAQ for the installation of the pump into the pump housing or whatever u wanna call it.

1: Loosen the metal straps that hold up the tank. Keep the nuts on the studs, but this will drop the tank 2-3 inches, which is all you will need.

2: Soak the screws in PB Blaster or equivalent penetrating spray, then remove screws.

3: The fuel lines DO NOT HAVE TO COME OFF.

4. When you get the screws off, there is a plug in the bottom of the tank that serves two purposes. 1, it holds the pump bracketry in place, and 2, it is the drain plug for the fuel tank. Remove this plug, and be ready with a clean drain pan, approximately 2-3 gallons of gas will probably still be in the tank.

5. With the tank lowered and the plug and retainer screws removed, the fuel pump assembly can be removed with the fuel lines attached. It won't look like it at first, but it will work. Take a good look at it, visualize how the the pump sits, pull back and rotate the assembly out of the tank.

6. The wiring is the easiest part, it is really self-explanatory once you have the pump assy. in your hand.

7. The only part you may have to "customize" is the black rubber isolator (a plug that locates/helps secure the pump to the bracket). Simply look at the old one and how it held the factory pump in place. A utility knife will work fine.

8. Put the assembly back in and seal it up.

As a side note, the aftermarket pump will be noticeably smaller than the factory pump. Most are, and this is nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps.

Okay so i have the old pump out and everything set up except for the wiring. Yes it is easy but im wondering if there is supposed to be a peice of rubber or something to cover the wires to make sure that its water (gas) proof to keep it from causing a spark or anything. The old fuel pump had one but the walbro doesnt have one on it....if anyone could help me out itd be great

But what about the actual clip that goes on the pump itself, the one off the stock wont fit on that.
