well, I knew it would happen. I got a need a neeed for speed. after getting ripped by a c5 vette tonite sounding healthy and prowling the streets I think to myself. hmmmm I could use some power. Right now I'm pondering a couple things.

A. not walking the line between daily driver and go fast car ever ever again. So picking up a second car while leaving the mr2 stock. hopefully have something out of the woodworks late fall/next spring.

B. focusing attention elsewhere on the mr2 besides power. then hitting it with a 3sge (175 NA, 2500 pound car) come a couple years. picking up a second car then.

C. saving my money.

I only ask this hear cause I figure most of you are as nuts as I am. not to mention as broke. LOL.

If your going to do the swap i know the perfect guy to do it... and have you looked into the V6 swaps yet? Lots of torque and the motors are cheaper.

Sounds unanimous...save your money!

No matter how fast you can afford to go, someone will always have more money.
I think your recent trading down of HP/trouble for money and less trouble, makes this an easy choice.

I sold the talon for a few key reasons.

1. reliability. have to make a trip to E.P and back everyday during school.
2. no DD. goes hand in hand with reason 1.
3. monetary reasons

Now, If I were too do it all over again. It would be with a DD and a race car I could donate too when I felt I had the cash.

So save up for a DD and worry about the MR2 later. This does / doesn't work depending on your discipline.

I quickly get bored of something I can't work on or modify for whatever reason, I do not know how you are but I finally figured out no car is worth going broke over because I thought about how I had no money so much that it overshadowed any joy I got out of the vehicle. This has happened about 40 times. I never learn.

yes. I'm the same way. I have noticed I've gotten bored with nothing to work on latley. Its kinda weird.

Basically, I have a thousand dollars left over from selling my talon.
I am weighing my options of getting seats, suspension( already have wheels), stereo kinda stuff for the mr2. Picking up a 1,000 or less shell, or just saving the money.

My advice is save the money for now and do little things so that you can maintain interest.

I was going to get rid of the TII but realized I would just get bored and buy a car that cost about the same and tinker on it.. and it would likely be a less capable platform. I might sell it but only because I found something better.

So instead of spending a bunch of money on big things, to keep interested im doing little things. For instance if I work on it today I'm going to check out how easy it will be to chuck the ABS and PS and clean up some of the wiring. And fix the low coolant / low oil buzzer. And see if what size aftermarket gauges will fit perfectly in my stock gauge cluster. Cheap/free stuff. If I chuck the ABS I'll lose like 20 lbs off the front, free up a ton of space, get rid of a paint-eating leaker, and occupy myself for a few hours. Should just cost a few bucks for a line bender and some extra line and a flare tool.

Do stuff like that to your car. Detail the interior. Plastic scratched up? scuff and dye it. How about your engine bay, what stuff can you get rid of. Or how about looking at your suspension, if it's rusty take one piece off at a time, wire wheel her or sandblast it and give her a coat of paint or clearcoat. Cheap/free/time consuming but then when you get money for the big stuff, the small pain in the ass stuff is done.
