i dunno if you guys can see that. so I'll just highlight some of the cracktard responses a guy got to swapping his 3sgte for a 4g63.

Good thing a knowledgeable eclipse guy came into this debate. I CAN argue that the 3s is a better engine than the 2g 4g63. The watercooled oil cooler is extrememly useless. IT doesnt do its job nearly as good as the 1g (very select few in 90) air cooled which i can admit was a good idea on mitsubishi. But what happens with the water cooled oil cooler is that the water can seep past the gasket on the oil filter housing and get into the engine and cause hydro lock. I have heard of this happening quite a few times. Also i had a fresh 4g63 into my 1g eclipse. IT was a 1g 7 bolt engine (93) and i was running at 9psi daily, i cranked it up to 13 one time and took it out for 5 minutes and it blew the head gasket really badly. the 4g63 is NOT a bullet proof engine, but is also a very strong motor if you are lucky to get one that was built from the factory right . Honestly, i think the 5sfe vs 4g63 in relibiality tests i think the 5s is BY far more reliable. Maybe becuase its NA and maybe becuase it has 125hp. But look at it like this. Compare the 3sge(or 5sfe) with a non turbo 4g63 and tell me which is more reliable. Also to note, the stock 1g turbo (tdo5h) is really a good turbo. It appears to be small but it can really flow better than the ct26. Also the 2g T25 is also a really nice turbo. But the ct20b is by far a much better turbo than both of those. Plus after owning my 1g eclipse GSTi will never own another mitsubishi in my life. Just my .02 cents.

and it gets better. he calls ME dumb for callin him out.

Justincredible, i dont know if you know what you are talking about exactly. And sorry for my false info on the 3sgte, i didnt know it had a watercooled oil cooler. The 7 bolt is NOT junk. The 1g 7 bolt is almost as reliable as the 1g 6 bolt. And the t25 is crap and boosts to 9psi stock? maybe you had bad luck with thus turbo but my brother has a 98gst and has a downpipe, BOV and intake and it hits 16psi without any problems for the last year now, amazing huh? But back to the topic, you will spend like 1800 to get a JDM 6 bolt red top 4g63 with tranny. Now you add in any other time and money to fabricate in anything else and the money for the wiring and ecu and whatnot. Everything added up will cost more than 3000 i will say. That is if you get a 4g63 imported through a importer. You can get a built up 3sgte for that much and still not have to worry if your dip stick is gonna come lose and spray oil everywhere and if your valve cover gasket is gonna blow or if your engine oil cap gasket is gonna spray oil over the valve cover when you boost it next time of if your 2nd gear is gonna blow out or if your gonna get crankwalk the next time you take that left turn. Just keep it toyota .

OMG!! biggthumpup.gif

I think I should find out if your roommates (twins) can do that too

You mean to tell me he is that big of a moron?
Refer him to sights that give boost ranges of the t25 compared to the 14b.
Also, I think he is ignorant to the design difference and inherent flaw of the 7- bolt thrust bearing design.
This, I have learned over the years, is where having unconfirmed opinions can hurt others that try to gain an appreciation to a certain car, or certain motor.
I used to think turbo 4's were the $hit and there was nothing better.
But, the INSTANTANEOUS torque from a v-8 is pretty damn fun.

Just inform the guy to keep his biased opinions to himself.

Most of our posts really don't have a lot of arrogant auras about our car being better than this car because it is the mighty DSM. Kudos to this board for that.

Sorry for the rant

The whole thing is ridiculous. The 3sgte and the 4g63 are both amazingly designed 4 cyl engines and have tremendous potential. It's like comparing the STI and Evo. Both are kick pooper, it's mostly a matter of preference.

As far as reliability goes, it's all in how it's put together. At times it would seem as if DSM's are vitually impossible to keep running more than a week without something going wrong because of all the outspoken problems on the boards, but what you don't hear about are the guys out there having zero problems becuase there really isn't much to say. I've been pushing 26 psi on my turbo on pump gas for about 14 months and probably 20K miles and have had zero issues as a result. Stock block, head, 2g pistons, and rods and consistent low 12's with zero needed wrenching or fixing broken parts. Meanwhile the only 3sgte I have actual experience with broke his tranny on a 13.1 pass at the track the first time. Does that mean that the toyota trannys suck and dsm trannys are bulletproof? I wish.

Arguing about whether the b18c, 4g63, k20, h22, 2jzgte, 5sfe, 3sgte, sr20det, ka24de, rb26dett, rb25det, 420a etc. engines are superior to each other is analogous to attempting to find out which automobile manufacturer is superior or which tuning company offers the best parts. It's a little more complicated than one person's opinion or experiences.

I just hate it when people try to argue with mis-information. thus, spreading to other people making them dumb too.

From what I've seen, the 3sgte is every bit as (un) reliable as the 4g63. All cars have problems, especially when you push the specific output towards 175-200hp/liter.

Overall, if I had a 3sgte in place already, I wouldn't bother with the swap as the 3sgte is a solid motor IMHO.

I did however post to rebut some of the more idiotic of the 4G63 comments on there.
