Hey does anyone know where i can find info on what Springfield does to these Crown Vic's to make them Intercepters? I know it's got a 4.6L V-8 pushing 239hp@4700rpm but i wasn't sure what else they get done to them. (i'm not trying to out run cops) i was just curious.

I worked at Ford Dealers for about 5 years and to the best of my knowledge Springfield probably doesn't do anything to the cars aside from cosmetic. Ford actually makes the interceptors. As far as I know the only differences were dual exhaust and a slightly modified PCM. I believe that everything in the long block is the same as any other Crown Vic. There are a few other things different but they are not HP adders just beefed up electrical systems to help support all those lights and sirens. Hope this helped.

I agree. Mostly, they just flash the PCM with a more aggressive program. The 4.6 retains its stock internals and the engine compartment gets more wiring for all the lights, sirens, and radios. I just left a Lincoln Mercury Dodge dealership where we worked on Impala, Intrepid, and Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. None of the internals were modified for the "police package". My uncle claims that his Crown Vic squad car barely managed 110 mph on an open road. Go figure

It would be relatively easy to build up a 4.6 They are good, stout motors that can take a lot of abuse before they give up. If it were mine, I'd supercharge that biotch! Put some stickys on the back and you're good for some abuse. Don't get caught trying to parade it around as an "undercover" car though. That will land you in jail faster than anything.

It'd be easy to do a stripped down version of the 4.6 without all the electronics. Otherwise you're going to have to find ways around the MAS and various other engine management tools. I may be overthinking but that's what I would do.

i don't know exactly what would need to be done but i'd be up for it. i'm thinking strip the emmisions and relocate the battery so i'd have enough room for IC pipes and i'd have to hack the front bumper(hopefully not..i want to keep it stock looking) for an FMIC. but i need to sell my GST and find a used Crown Vic.

anyone looking for a 97 gst,milano red with a 2.4 stoker for around $10K? gimme a pm.

I have a Uncle who is a Ford dealer in "Ford County" no pun intened! It's a small dealership in Roberts. He has been alot of help in finding certain cars and trucks for my family. So if you are dead sure you are into the project and have the cash to back it let me know and I will place a call for ya! just drop a e-mail . Just remembered I have a brother-in that has a pair of S/C T-Birds sittin on the side as possible doners for the project. One runs damm good the good for parts. T-birds are good for their indepndent suspensions as well as the motors! I hope this some help to ya! Later Grimy

i know its irrelevant but some cool info... when i was arrested, i actually didnt do it, but ne ways the cop had a supercharged intrepid, (the state trooper version) so of course we started talking about it. come to find out the thing pushes damn near 400 horses. so i kinda re-thought my carefully planned future dsm expressway chase/escape.

Some of the old T-birds had a fourcylinder turbo RWD powerplant in them. I believe they were called the Turbocoupes.

Yes a fews model years had 4banger turbos, they lacked alot of power . Ford didn't procuce them very long becuase of extremely low sales !! Supercoupes on the otherhand are a different beast! 3.8 V-6 Supercharged ! Plenty of aftemarket stuff to get for them. Easy to repair or rebuild. All T-Birds are rwd!!!! They are a fullsize coupe 2dr. The T-Birdsfrom 86- mid 90's had awesome handling and comfort charistics. I had a 86 T-Bird and loved it ! Good gas mileage ,ride, performce, and style.. Excellent Donnor car for odds and end parts!! If not a project of its own !!!
