Yeah, dude, just let us know when you'll be in town, and we'll throw something together for ya. It'll be a good excuse to throw back a few over some food. Or go ice skating..........you know, the normal stuff guys do.

So, am I going to have a shot at the "MUTANT GSX"?

Why is it called that?

sure, I will give you a shot at it...

it is called the Mutant GSX because of all the different "mix/match" parts that are on it.... my local "crew" started calling it the "Mutant"

Lol, maybe I should be in the mutant crew. The only things original to my car is the body panels, wiring harness, and the susupension. Everything else is off another random parts car.

I can relate. I have my original '92 FWD eclipse engine attached to a 92' talon AWD drivetrain and a '91 eclipse wiring harness all in my '90 AWD Talon chassis.

haven't been but only heard good things about cordova... i went down in flames last time in true dsm style fashion... all night wrenching, 5 am, find out I had a turbo that hadn't been put back together right after sending it out for porting work.

cordova got rained out that day, and rescheduled for a week later. all night wrenching, 5am broke a banjo bolt.

this year, i willnot be wrenching at 5 am. i will be sleeping.

mutant, enjoy your two weeks man. My cousins on his way back over there for his second tour. he was in kirkuk last time, going back to the same area, only he's no longer with the 173rd, and is doing sniping now.

I am not sure what day in May i will be home, but if the 28th is in my scopes... You can be sure I will bring out the GSX... It will be the first time I have brought it out to a strip... should be fun... lets see if I can get er dialed in.

I think that I will swap out my shifter to the stock shifter... I was having problems grabbing gears with that stubby ass cut down shifter...

I am also looking into purchasing an accual "short throw shifter" not just a shortened one.

any one seen one lately???

hey ben, i got an idea for your shifter. it will take some "backyard ingeneuity, but im sure it can be done. your shifter is a cable shifter, i assume (if i remember playing with the stock one at your apartment when we were workin on her...)

now, the fiero coincidentally has the same sort of setup. with any short shifter for this style, you will not get decreased side-to-side movement, due to the design of the select mechanism, but you can get alot less front to back. the fiero guys do it by making a shifter that sticks down a bit farther on the bottom, effectively increasing your lever arm on the bottom, hence the shorter shifts. (im sure you know all about levers and whatnot, so ill not get into it tongue.gif )

unless there is a whole shifter assembly replacement you buy for the eclipses, i think we can just make one. i can weld now, so when you get back, holla at me!

P.S. i would like to think that i am one of his "crew" and i am not from pekin. of course i wasnt around when they started calling it the mutant........

Brandon,
I just got an accual shifter that is manufactured for a short throw design.... I had a "chopped down shifter" but i couldn't get the leverage to grab second in a hurry. My ol' lady just sent me the pics via email but I haven't had time to anylyse them to make sure that the contraption that I purchased will work.... I will let you know...

Ben
