well I locked up my TC the other day and took it to the dealer, got a call from them today and they say it is going to cost me $2700 ohmy.gif they said it's not covered under the recall because it has already been done in 1998. my question it what do I do to get them to fix this?

I'd check a vehicle history report or something similar to see if the recall has actually been done or if they're lying to you. If it has already been done, I'd look for a used transfer case and swap it yourself.

Transfer case recall is good for life. I think the dealer actually replaced Netter's whole transmission for free when his transfer case melted.

Some phone numbers to try:

Too bad you didn't check the fluid level first to make sure they didn't just fill it up after the fact.

I got hosed on my t-case when it locked up. I swore I'd show them and never buy a mitsu again. I bet they're still laughing at me.

I thought all the autos were 22 spline and my brain tells me the drive ratio (like the rear end ratio) should be different as well.

I'm not positive, but I'm thinking the auto and manual T-case of the '91 and later should be the same. All drive ratio is done either in the transmission or the rear end, so I know that's not an issue. I think it was just the '90 T-cases, auto and manual alike, that were 22 spline.

The center case section on the auto transfer case is different. I have taken the center section of the a broken manual transfer case to convert an auto to a manual case. I should have the auto center section somewhere if needed. As Nate said the gears ratio in the cases are all the same. I do know our old 91 red car came from the factory with a 22 spline case. The dealer installed a 23 spline case when they installed the 94 style tranny. I had 3 transfer cases fail before the recall ever exsisted.

No it will not unless you put the auto center TC section on the manual TC.

well my new TC should be here sometime next week. I am going to pick my car up Sat. and start taking it apart. I am done messing with the dealer can't get the same story twice from them, first is was full of fluid and not leaking, then a guy told me it was empty and his boss told him he wouldn't know he was on vacation when my car was inspected. then the manager took a look at it and told me that there was almost no fluid in it at all but it was not leaking so it would not be covered under the recall. this is the same guy that told me on monday that it was full of fluid. blink.gif the best part is none of them can tell me were my fluid went the best I can guess it just evaporated. so with any luck my car will be back on the road by next weekend biggthumpup.gif

Did you do the RTV inside the yoke or the JB Kwik Weld outside the yoke method??
