I think I may have a boost leak. The car has been running extremely weird since I've been in Texas. That long ride must have pissed the car off. Anyhow, at higher rpms (mid to WOT), the car starts bucking like hell. Sounds like the car's choking on fuel. And now I've noticed that I can punch the throttle, but the car doesn't go like it should. Also, the turbo spools up fully, so I'm pretty sure it's a boost leak. I can't find any obvious area that is leaking, so any common areas that it may be leaking that you boys know of?

Definatley sounds like a boost leak. Throttlebody leaks are common but yours sounds like it holds until a certain psi. I would check the couplers on the IC piping first.

I'm assuming that some resin on the IC endtanks would be in order as well? Good measure and all?

If you have access to an air compressor, you could try a boost leak test. All you need is a valve stem, pvc pipe cap, and a fernco plumbing fitting to fit the turbo intake. This will pressurize the intake system and you can listen for leaks. I just did this again a few days ago and found 2 small leaks at my throttle body.

I ended up needing a new gasket and new tb shaft seals.

"listening" for leaks? Is a light mix of dishwashing soap and water recommended much like a natural gas fitting leak test ... ?

You can usually hear the leak(s) just fine. Then you can run your hand around the general area that you hear the leak from and feel where the air is coming from.

Since you're still in the area Kazz, you're more than welcome to come over sometime to check for boost leaks on your car. I have a boost leak tester that will fit your turbo. I'd like to run a check on my Evo also. I've only done the nugget.

Props to natedogg - leaky BOV identified. Now the dilemna of how to replace it. That JDM MR BOV is tasty ... but how practical is any other replacement for God's sake? It's just a BOV(BPV) ...

no kidding! But on the bright side, the smokes basically all cleared up (the turbo's arent dead yet!). I ordered some BPV's, so hopefully that fixes the problem. If not i'm going to be VERY confused!
