Any ideas what the wastegate/turbo problem might be attributed to?
Thanks

I'm looking at a 90 GSX...he said:

ticks at first startup when it got really cold overnight. the turbo
works fine, but I had to wire the wastegate wide open to be able to
drive it because it stutters when it starts to build boost. leaks oil,
but until thursday when I bought a van to drive to work I drove it
every day and it always started and ran.

Stuttering on boost usually occurs due to (somewhat in order of commoness):

1) A leak in the intake plumbing somewhere after the turbo and before the throttle body.

2) Bad plugs/wires

3) Ooooooooold fuel filter

4) Bad fuel pump

5) Bad coil pack/module

6) Bad ECU

7) Severely blown head gasket
