The initial thought would be to wait for the 9s to come out, give it a few months, and then pick up an 8 pretty cheap. The only thing that would foil this plan would be some great features in the 9 that would make you drop the extra cash.

Hopefully the release of the 9 won't put a value increase on the 8s as I have heard this about the 04 Mustangs. A friend of mine with an 04 GT was told by a dealership that his 04 GT was worth a grand more than it was last year due to the release of the new body style... I find that hard to beleive but you never know.

If you are gonna wait for the 9...you might as well wait to see what the 10 has to offer due to the new platform. Then make a decision, 8 or so months prior to the 10s release. If you don't like the 10, get a 9 at a decent price. If you have waited this long, a bit more ain't gonna hurt. The 10 is supposed to be that much better. Sure the looks are up for debate...but so were the 8s when they first came out.

Man....the choices on trying to buy a car named the "Evolution".

I can't speak for resale. I try not to play that game if I buy a new one ... *Laugh*

However, as for the 9 over the 8, I don't yet see the value. Pricing will dictate some, MIVEC is interesting but the tuner community has yet to get their hands on it to see if there are any huge performance exploits over non-MIVEC ... I'm on a very slow boat to a replacement - as we all are - and will be watching it all with great interest in coming years ...

What I think will be most interesting will be the markets perceived valuation of the GSR vs. RS vs. MR with a sub-plot being how the 9 might be packaged when it does come out.

There _is_ something about that front end I like ... dunno if it's enough to replace mine once it's road-weary enough with pockmarks, etc. and needs that eventual respray ...

i like the 8. invest half the price difference in a used 8 vs. new 9 and you'll have a damn fast hotrod.

I never thought the 3s motors could touch the 2jz in terms of power production.

Spy correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you're not interested in buying new as in IX or X, but more interested in seeing how little you can get an VIII for once the IX comes out. I'm with miami. Wait for the IX to come out, see what happens. I bet the price of the VIII will probably drop a little. Use the money you saved to make the car quicker.

I remember netter posted an article way back on the old CII board that compared power production between a 2jz and a 6g72 mod for mod and the 6g72 actually had the 2jz beat by a few hp. If I remember right this was to about 500 hp. On the other hand, people have pulled nearly 1000 hp out of the stock bottom end of the 2jz. I doubt the stock 6g72 bottom end would take that beating.

Although it is a little off subject...I agree that the Toyota engine is more capable than the Mitsu 6-cylinder.

This seems to be evident by the shear number of people running the 2jz engine in their drag cars at the NOPI and NHRA events. Very powerfull cars. While the quickest 6g72 I know of is still in the 10's. Respectable, but not near the 8 second range even the heavy Supras are putting down.

after reading an article once about engine harmonics I'm a fan of straight 6's. there's a guy up here, marco, who runs 8's on his supra with 1200hp and it's literally street driven and full weight.

it's true, the longer he waits on the 8 the more it will depreciate. Hell the 05's are already making the 8's look weak, but for me it's gravy because unless they make a fundamental design change, i'll take the best of the new evo's and making it work on the 8 (eagerly awaiting the 9's turbo). and I love not having acd to worry about.
