Where were the first gens engines made? How about the second gens? Who owns Diamond Star Motors? Who owned Mitsubishi during the early 90s?

All 4g63T's are made in Japan. Diamond Star Motors is no longer in existance, but when it was, it was a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Mitsubishi owned Mitsubishi in the early 90's.

The 1G and 2G Talons, Lasers, Eclipses were made in Normal, Illinois at the Diamond Star Motors plant. It is now called Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturers of America and they also built the gen 3 and the new gen 4 Eclipse. Along side the Eclipsese they have made the Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger, Mitsubishi Galant (since 95 I think), the Mitsubishi Endeavor, and some other vehicles.

One little known fact is that the Plymouth Laser was the first DSM in concept form. Basically, Chrysler came to Mitsubishi with this idea of making a car like this one. Chrysler designed it, Mitsubishi engineered it.

so is it because of the name change, we do not refer to 3G and 4G Eclipse's as DSM's?????

Right, when Diamond Star Motors of Normal, IL changed their name to Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America (I believe it was '00) they stopped calling them DSM's. I think more of the relevance to the DSM name is because the 90-99 T/E/Ls are the more favored rather than the slow, traction challenged 3Gs.

I'm not sure about the name change, but I do know that Diamond Star Motors as a corporation went away in '95. Mitsubishi was soley responsible for the plant after that. Chrysler simply supplied money for the chrysler vehicles that were still being produced there.
