This question is from a lurkers perspective, lol.
It seems like quite a few people here do or have actually owned MULTIPLE DSM's. It is rare for me to visit a car forum and notice that certain brands seem to create a collection. Very rarely do I see somebody with multiple BMW's (of similar model) but DSM's seem to be like collectables... can't have just one, lol. So who here is on their second (or more) DSM? Why is it so common to own multiples of this car rather than just one? Or am I only reading posts from the true DSM hardcore whores? ![]() |

Same boat here.... the GSX is my first and so far only DSM... I keep thinking about aquiring a second one... but I am absolutely sure it will have to be a FWD.... I love the way that AWD handles and launches, but requires much more work to fix when it breaks.

So what is it about these cars that makes you want to own more and more of them?
I have a maxima and I have an M3. At no point in time did I ever feel the need to own multiple copies of the same car. Do you guys think this is normal? How would you explain your behavior? ![]() You guys are definately confirming my suspicions... but have not addressed the topic of Why?. How can we explain this in a scientific manner? |

Well im on #3, they go 94 GS, 94 L'o'ser 1.8, then my first turbo, the 90 gsx, and have had problems with all three, but i like the idea of a 4 banger domestic killer, nobody in this area would know what it would be like. Im one of the few ive seen with a turbo. rest are N/A pieces of crap. We have a cruise night in my hometown, you mostly see mustangs and camaros and jacked up pickups, no eclipses that are worthy of anything, a couple ricey 2g with clear tailights and a fart pipe, and fancy rims, but no turbo. My goal was to get my car going and hand most of them thier asses, but my goal wasnt met in time. Even the mustangs and camaros arent forced induction or anything, exhaust, intake mods are probably it.
As far as owning multiple dsms at the same time, if one breaks, you always have parts to fix it LOL ![]() -------------------- 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS- Pretty daily driver

I think a chemical inbalance in the brain causes this ungodly need for speed and the need for hard launches and the need to wax off cars with over 2x the displacement. The ownership of a DSM (especially an AWD DSM) balances that problem and brings the majority of us back in check..... For others with much more severe cases (like SPY) multiple doses of DSM ownership are nessesary to bring him back into check.
unfortunately for most DSM owners, DSM ownership is highly addictive and requires many years of re-hab (ie, owning multiple "non-DSM's") to cure... and for some of the more severe cases (like SPY) complete independence is almost impossable to achieve. Sound like a Sergeon General Warning doesn't it ![]() -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

The combination of compact, turbo, awd, and enough power potential to kick a Porsche 911 turbo's ass on the stock bottom end for a sixteenth of the price...what's not to be addicted to?

I'm on my second now. The addiction for me is the thrill of the ride. Low to the ground, good handling, quick acceleration... all for a fraction of the cost of any other car I know of.

Oh, I am not doubting these cars can be made fast or anything.
... but why MULTIPLE dsm's? Maybe I'll create a new poll asking how many dsm's do you own, lol. |

The first one I bought was a '92 TSi fwd automatic.... I loved the car but I hated the fwd and automatic party. On top of that it had 160k miles and was bone stock so it had lost some of its "oomph".
So I sold that bitch and bought a '90 GSX 5-speed. I'm not sure if I will ever own anything but a DSM now. Even in stock form every time I hear the BOV let off its crisp chirp going back into the intake, I get a little smile on my face. I don't think I will ever feel anything as fun as dropping the clutch at 5k either. The fact that it is still stock, and basically slow as hell compared to what it can do (boost leaks from 15 year old piping etc), I can't wait to mod the hell out of it. -------------------- ![]() |

Well, my first one was a FWD Automatic GST Eclipse. Eventually, the transmission started going out and I wrecked the car. My dad had just bought another DSM (a 91 Talon TSi AWD 5spd) and it broke down on him. I picked it up and have been working on it ever since.
I guess my first interest in these cars started because my dad worked at the Mitsubishi plant in Normal. From there on, it just snowballed. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

It's all an issue of a man's need to feel accepted in this ho-hum society. You see, acceptance is in the form of an enormous erection recieved after taking a ride in a car that looks innocent, and then molests you to the point of having an organism.
Should you be looking for just such an experience, I would reccomend a ride with.....oh, say Natedogg in his unholy piece of metal. Just one ride, and you will always want to get back in that car and feel the swelling in your pants again. Sorry about all the sexual metaphors (and the literal comments about erections), I've been away from home for far too long. -------------------- QUOTE (gsxracer80 @ Oct 31 2006, 12:41 AM)

QUOTE ... but why MULTIPLE dsm's? DSMs can be made to be anything you want them to be just based on the parts you throw at them. You want it to be reliable, so you keep the stock turbo and get it tuned nice to be a good daily driver. You are afraid of it breaking since its your DD, so you pick up another for $1500 from someone who thinks its broken. Throw another $1500 at it and have a solid 13.0 car and all is good. Then the DD breaks and the collecting begins. Before you know what happend you have 3-5, or in Spy's case 4,564,837 DSMs. To put it simply, they are inexpensive, and require a lot of maintenance. -------------------- GVR4 866/1000 = the perpetually broken car
