If your going to do it yourself, port matching is pretty easy and can't hurt as long as you do it right. (You can't open the exhaust ports up as big as the stainles gasket would make you think).

Keep in mind that Darryl was running 11's easy with a purely stock head, so it's not necessary.

I'd do just a light port to get rid of the cast flashing. Port velocity is good for cars way into 11s.
