Ever find that car you've been looking for forever? When I sold my Sebring, just before I bought my truck, I was looking at 2G N/A Eclipses. The idea behind it is reliability, good gas mileage, in a good looking package. Well, after kicking myself in the pooper for not buying one last time, I started looking for one now. I love the way the chrome GST wheels look, the whale tail spoiler, black exterior, and tan leather interior look. Well, it just so happens that I stumbled upon one on the 2GNT board. The only defects are the holes where the old spoiler used to be ($300 repair) and the cracked windshield ($200) both of which are relatively cheap. Now, some of his responses are kind of quirky, especially when he starts talking about the title, so if some of you could help me sort out a solution, I'd much appreciate it.

FIRST REPLY:

I have it on ebay at the moment, but you can still buy it now.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=4575956305

AFTER ASKING HOW MUCH:
I'll take $4500.

You can come anytime tommorrow, but before 2:30, or after 5.

I will tell you this now, I have a loan on the car, once you pay me, I will send in the rest of the money I owe to the bank. Once they get that and it clears, they will then send the title to me, which I will then send to you.

We can write up a bill of sale, and i just re-registerd my plates, so you can use those for now, untill you get the title from me.

That is of course if we make a deal on this.

AFTER OFFERING TO GO TO THE BANK TOGETHER:
The bank is in Conneticut.

I purchased the car when I was in the navy, and stationed in CT.

I sold my 92 TSi AWD about 2 years ago, which I also had a loan from another bank in CT. I did the same thing with that person. Actually we never really wrote up a bill of sale, I knew him from a DSM forum so we trusted each other enough.

All I can offer you is a Bill of sale, which you or I can write up, and I will sign. The keys and the plates on the car currently. You will know all my info as you will be coming here.

AFTER OFFERING HIM $4k:
Sunday is fine as well.

As of yesterday, I owe $4,558 on the car. Unless I get that offer, I will hold out and see what I can come up with on the ebay auction.

I have many questions, and watchers as well. And I think 3 people that want to come look at the car.

Yes the bumper is starting to fade/peel and/or flake, this bumper was replaced as the original one had a crack in it. This one was painted, but the quality of paint is not that great, and is starting to flake in some areas.

The paint overall is great, but a nice wax and buffing would really help it too.

I just want to get enough money from this, to pay the loan off, and I think $4500 is fair.

Cars are always a money pit, I will be loosing on this car big time.

Bought the car for $8k, in the past three years I've only managed to get the loan down to $4500, interest is raping me.

Apexi Cat back was $550
Clarion CD player I paid $499 for
The satalite radio I got just as it came out, that was $200
The Chrome wheels I bought for $400
I replaced the transmission, that was actually a deal, for $500
New cluch and TOB was I think $150ish
Rebuilding the head, and all new timing was 400/500 as well.
The car also came with stock cloth seats, I swapped those for leather which was another $300. I still have the stock cloth seats you can have if you want.

So far, I probably have about $7,000 into the car, and still owe $4500.

So again, your offer of $4,000 is fair, but I will wait out the ebay auction, and follow up with other possible buyers, before I have to stoop any lower.

What do you guys think? Should I just write up a contract and make him sign it? Should I attempt to drive on his plates? I'd like to offer him the $4000 again and he can take his stereo out of it and put the stock one back in. I won't use the Sattelite radio. Also, if any of you have any ideas for contracts, post 'em up! Thanks guys

1. I would not drive on his plates. That cannot be legal, especially after the title transfer goes in to effect. As far as I know it is only legal to drive home with no plates from the point of purchase (with a bill of sale) but that is it.

2. I have not priced an N/A lately but is this a really good price? It seems that you should be able to find one that has been a little less molested! Actually I just ran it through kbb.com and came up with $3900. Setting a sale price based on what you owe is a novelty idea.

I would keep walking, not based on the "shadiness", but the condition of the car vs. the price. Head, Transmission, Clutch, TOB... that scares me!

Well, problem being, I'd keep looking if I could. I've only got till Monday on the loaner from Country Insurance. I could ask for a couple more days but, it wouldn't be more than a couple. I didn't think driving on his plates was very legal sounding but, I may be able to source a dealer plate to drive on for the time being. $4000 is actually a decent price for an N/A 97-99 model with under 145k on it from what I've seen. I agree, what he's asking is kind of steep for the damage but, IT IS exactly what I've been wanting. Why does the head, trans, and clutch scare you? Those are parts he replaced, not parts that need to be replaced.

I may end up bidding on it through Ebay and try to get a lower price than $4000, providing no one else goes that high. He says he's got two or three other people interested in it too so there's no telling. I agree, he's smart to ask for what he's got in the loan but, I don't think he'll get that much for it. Not with that kind of mileage on the motor.

OR, I could keep the money, providing that I get my clutch pedal back this coming week, and wait for one identical for it to come by. Of course I'd have to start driving my 91 Talon every day which kind of scares me. If I wait, I'll be waiting for one identical to this one and nothing less. Black exterior, 97-99 GS model, manual trans, N/A, moonroof, GS sideskirts, GS rims.

If the car is what you are looking for then obviously you would be willing to kick out a few extra bucks. Looking around at the completed auctions on Ebay makes me think there is a pretty good chance that the auction will not go as high as he is hoping. The only fear is that a local buyer would move on the deal before the auction is over.

My only concern on the parts being replaced is that he did not say that he replaced them with performance parts. I just think that this is an N/A that has been driven a little hard.

I think this is probably my best option right now. Thanks for the offer though Nick! I'm going to use a little bit of the money I got back and go (finally) buy the title to the Talon from my Dad, and then get the registration done and plates. I hope to be driving it by late this coming week. biggthumpup.gif
