Here is my story:
The other day I got this bright idea to hook a tach up under the hood. To the wire that is behind the throttle body. Well it didn't go so well. I got sparks and engine cut out. And later that night I was going to run a log on 1st through 3rd. Hooked up the pda had the car warm ready to go. And it don't read shit, 0hz on lower left corner. So I knew I fried the data cable (the little resistors). So now I can't hook up my 2g system yet until I get one of those. Well I have had time to think about it. So I just went out and did a test on error codes. I can say the PDA is good and the data cable is good. It told me I had a common ECU error. I tried to delete the code and it didn't work. So can someone tell me what that means? The Common ECU error. -------------------- Thanks, Bud!

Wire behind the throttle body? Why might I ask would you do that? Are you talking about the TPS wire? If you wire an aftermarket tach it should be wired into one of the wires coming off the coil pack I believe. BTW, if it's an Autometer unit you'll need a special converter to make it accurate.

Why is a converter needed? I have a converterless autometer hooked up to my car and it reads revlimit at 9K RPM and idle at 900 just like it should.
Bud - Have you checked/replaced the caps in your ECU lately. |

Have you tried an ECU reset since the sparks and engine cut-off?

I think I'm going to need a new ECU. It keeps telling me there is a ECU comm error. Which I do believe means it can't communicate with the ECU. So I think I toasted part of my ECU. I even tried disconnecting the battery to reset and that didn't work. So now I'm really lost.

Here is a picture of the wire I tried to connect to.
 EDIT: This wire is hot I got a bit of a shock out of it. Felt to me like it was 12v  !

So now I have come to my conclusion. I fried my ECU comm port. So now I really need a new ECU. The weird thing is, I'm not having any problems with it running wrong.Yet!

Ok guys, let's get off of this tach thing that you got going on. I need some help, I need to know what that wire was I connected to. I have searched and all I can find is it's to hook up a tach. I think that it is for the diagnosis port, like the one under the dash (pin one).
I can't get this damn logger to work at all. I have tried to rewire myself with this pda diagram I found on dsm tuners:  And this is how I wired it, let me know if I did something wrong. And please don't laugh at the solder job. It's like my first time doing this crap.

Did you make sure your diode is pointing the right direction? Other than that I'd take a Fluke to it and make sure your getting continuity where you want it and no continuity where you don't want it.

I was wanting to know what wire I shorted out? I posted a new pic on the first page, Showing the wire location.
And what am I supposed to be looking for when I test this logger cable? Why can't I get it to link to my ECU? -------------------- Thanks, Bud!

Use the multimeter to check continuity of the wires from end to end, check for proper resistance of the resistor (imagine that), and look at the diode to make sure its in the proper "directon". The arrow should point in the same direction it does in the schematic, yo.

I got it to work, Finally. I just had to wire it differently than they showed. Yee- Haw!! Now I can log again,LOL!!
I was thinking that there was a problem with my PDA also. I contacted the guy I bought it off of. He told me to send everything back and he would fix it, and send it back. This guy Rommel is great, He is more than willing to help after the sale. I just took my time and figured out where and how everything had to be, to get the right signals.
