 tranny problem, some ? |

As all of you probably know my 2g tranny blew the fifth gear apart. I recently went to the dealership and bought the parts to fix it when I ran into a problem. While installing we noticed that the 5th gear sincro that is on the car and the one they gave me are different. Also the retaining spring. So I called them up and they told me to give them the serial number off the tranny, and I did. My car has got the stock housing piece that covers the clutch etc, but the gear housing is off a galant. Now the dealership cant help me because they show the sincos to be the same. Anyone have an idea of what action I should take. Or maybe some of you have an extra tranny for a 2g fwd up for grabs. Either way let me know.

Im not sure if this applys to a 2g, but im pretty sure i read somewhere that the new syncros from the dealer are a "revised" version on 1G's

Im not sure either. The lady at the dealership told me to go to a transmission shop somewhere in the area and ask them for help, so thats probably what Ill have to do. Does anyone know of a good tranny tech around central Illinois? Also I was wondering if a 1g fwd tranny will work on a 2g fwd?

From what I have heard and researched, NO! It will not work as the 1g has one mount and the 2g has three mounts.

Here is the link to a post in which they talk about the different syncros and have a couple guides that may help you. Thought maybe it may help, and you may not necessarily have the wrong parts.
