Well next year im gonna try to get me a brand new eclipse. Im deciding between that or a stealth/3000gt and i may just get it for the warranty. Anyone out there have a 3G eclipse that would give me any feedback on what they are like? Are the GTS models very quick factory? Mods= void warranty, so it will be lightly modded if at all. Handling any good, i love the handling of my 1G DSM's, never tried a AWD though. Newer cars i have drove feel bulky in cornering and dont offer the secure feeling that my 1G dsms seem to give me, so im not sure if the 3G is one of them. I will of course test drive it first, but trying to decide if I want an eclipse or get an older stealth. One more thing, the sporttronic vs manual tranny, i would think the manual would be better, not sure how good the sport tronic trannys are. Thanks!

I don't think there are many if any 3G owners on here. You may want to try the following link for info on 3Gs.

I have thought about a 97-99 GSX, not sure what kinda problems they are known for, ex. crankwalk? Well im gonna be stationed on an army base so whatever i decide to get, it wont be a daily driver. But it will be making quite a few trips home, so it would be a travel car, but i want something that i can "play" with also

Here is the deal! If you want a warrenty, the 3g would be for you. I have a 02 stratus R/T (Same engine and aftermarket parts). Its a great daily driver that is kind of sporty. You can buy CAI, Down Pipes, Headers, and much more. I like the look of the 3g eclipes and the overall power is not bad.
But the down side. These things are boats! if you get the fully loaded model you better get a stick! I got the auto-stick and it is not worth a damn. Here are some clubs and places to buy aftermarket parts for the 3g: Norcal dreamspeed2.com www.eclipseforums.org -------------------- |

LOS on our list runs a black 3G in autocross and he runs pretty damn good. It wouldn't be my first choice, but I drove one when they first came out and I don't think it would make a bad daily driver.

I enlisted in the army, so i wont actually be able to get one till prob this time next year (when i will finally be stationed). I was going over my pay and swinging the cost of a brand new car shouldnt be a problem. Plus im supposed to get cheap insurance for being in the army.

QUOTE (94laser @ May 8 2003, 10:56 PM) I enlisted in the army, Im not looking for something to race, im looking basically for something that would be reliable, quick if i wanted to play around with it, and a definate chick magnet : Congrats and thank you for your service to our country. What is your M.O.S. and where is your basic training and A.I.T.? As far as the car goes, for my money it would be the 2G AWD. If your not going to mod it that much you won't need to worry that much about crankwalk, plus the AWD will get you off the line quicker. IMHO the 2G looks alot nicer than the 3G too. But then again, I'm not a "chick". -------------------- Brian J

The V6 is very torquey but it is no Turbo!!! The 3000GT would be the better buy in my opinion. You can get the early ones very cheap. Look for VR4 and All-Wheel Steering. |
