Well, I picked this up from the driveshaft shop today and I got so excited about it that I couldn't keep it a secret. I bolted it up to make sure everything fit and it did perfectly. The only thing I have to complain about is that it feels a bit on the heavy side but I'm sure it's still short of what the stocker weighs. The welds are near perfect and Kevin built it with just some measurements and my specifications. I told him what I was going to do with it and he built it without even having the car there. We couldn't make a 1-piece driveshaft because he said he prefers not to go over 70in because it becomes dangerous. So, we just used the back carrier bearing, which I'm filling with silicone, and made a 2-piece shaft. I bought new U-joints for it as well which he put in for me at a minimal charge. He also took the pivot ball apart and put new grease in there (which is a special type of grease) and put it back together in proper form. All in all, I'm very happy with what I got. Good price, good product. I'll have further updates as well when I can drive the car.

Very nice! Has anyone read/heard about running an aluminum drive shaft? I know many trucks are using it now, but they have room for the larger diameter shaft under the vehile, and I"m guessing we don't. Just curious.

It's "Spicer Heat Treated Driveshaft Steel" is exactly what Kevin said the label says.
I'm not sure about the JB Weld treatment, but I have heard of the silicone. Kevin also told me to scratch the bottom inside the yoke and make sure to use some carb cleaner to get all the crud out. That way the silicone will have something to stick to when it dries in there. I asked him about running an aluminum one to save weight. Honestly, Kevin told me that it would take so much aluminum to build it tough enough to withstand the strain, an aluminum one would be just as heavy as this one. BTW, by the end of our conversation he officially thinks I'm a master at the art of "rigging" things to work with all this silicone in the yoke and carrier bearings. What a great reputation us DSMers have!  BTW total price out the door was under $300, materials were about $50, and labor was the rest. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

Our aluminum driveshaft saved us 10 lbs.
Link to a picture and info It replaces the first 2 sections just like yours. The yoke is a larger to match the larger output shaft from the transfer case. -------------------- |

you ever go with the upgraded t-case they sell too darryl? I know they were selling them in batches, so availability was limited to production runs of 10, but I read that shep was very happy with his.

I think Darryl has mentioned before that he does have their upgraded t-case.
