Well, as the oily residue on a few vehicles in Peoria and the White mushroom cloud on Pioneer Parkway will attest to...my Super 14b is now D E A D.
I got the large in/outlet side mount on and ported the compressor housing to match my aluminum compressor elbow over the weekend. I also added the bronze shifter bushings at the transmission for further improved firmness. The car was driving and shifting like a dream. Increadibly the power output and gear transfers became so soft that I wondered if the car was actually going slower! I didn't do any tests, but she was pulling HARD with it's extra breathing capacity. The only two drawbacks I found were that my turbo had gained a bit of rotational shaft play and I now hit fuel cut when the accelerator was mashed in any higher gear at low RPM. Today in P-town I happend to be right behind a familiar sport bike at a stop light. As the bike began to unwind off of the line I slipped the clutch out slowly to avoid landing on his rear tire. ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh well that's how this hobsession goes. Now will I find a cheap 14b to replace this thing with quick or will I go ahead and upgrade to the AGP L2R, leaving the 14b title to be improved by other enthusiasts? Man, that really sucks Marcus... At least it put on a cool smoke show as it died.
I was just reading on DSMTalk about Phil Beers 12.02 on a 14b, and thinking how Marcus could actually have a more powerful setup that was just hindered by the expanse of unnecessary plastic and such that makes our cars feel more "cushy". From what I read, Phil's car is around 2600# w/o driver. Add 500-600# of plastic and a driver for Marcus' ride and, well, it all starts to come into perspective. Congrats on the long run of good forune with the "super 14b" and we look foreward to whatever may lie ahead for your "super sleeper". ![]() -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

That SUCKS! Man. What a dilemma. I'd love to see you take Beers' 14B record away from him or at least come close to it with a full weight stock car, but at the same time I'd love to see what the L2R is capable of. I guess it all comes down to the budget.
I'd keep in mind that the L2R will be wanting a FMIC and probably even larger injectors, not to mention a 255 lph fuel pump and AFPR. More f'ing expenses. ![]() Hmmm... |

QUOTE (Super16G @ May 13 2003, 10:55 PM) KOU did have a good 14b for sale That's a perfect thought Todd, but as any good Murphy's law abiding incident would happen...I already bought and sold that turbo for friends 1G awd!! So that's a no go. I talked to Josh, who was trying to put together an AGP group buy today. They told him that they DON'T MAKE L2R'S OR L3R's ANYMORE!! They aparently are working with Forced Performance and only make something comparable to the L3 now. Yes that means no dual ball bearing cartridges from them. So I talked to Turbochargers.com about their Godzilla TD05H and TD06's which are good for 410HP and 430HP respectively. The TDO6 actually spools faster...somewhere in the neighborhood of 2800-3000RPM. They also cost $990 and $1045 respectively but bolt up directly and no other accessories are required on your 1G. The sad fact was that they were excited to tell me they bolted one of these onto a 1995 GST and ran a 12.3! Ummm, I know that's fast for a GST, but common $1000 to run in the 12's!?! This guy seemed to think the best bang for my buck would be a 16G. I don't know... after those last two comments I'm not sure I like this guys advice. I think maybe I should get a good tight 14b and continue the 'Good Fight'. Marcus -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

You might want to talk with Darryl about Busher's new turbos (BR500 and the BR580). Darryl's running the BR580, and well, you know the results. He said some good things about the BR500 also, be interesting to check them out at least.
Personally, I'd be thinking seriously about a 16g. I've seen a lot of them around for $400-450 lately on the trader and e-bay. Give you a little more capability than before, without completely breaking the bank. I'm sure it would get you into the 11's at the track. ![]() -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

QUOTE (scorp28 @ May 14 2003, 04:54 AM) I may be TOOMA here(like the flashback ![]() That is true for a car that's runing stock 15second times, but I was already able to pull off a few 12.6's with the 14b turbo. So this would turn into more like $350 for each tenth of a second if the turbo didn't have any more potential then that. I guess I would like a turbo that costs me near a grand to at least lower my 1/4 mile times to mid 11's. Otherwise I'll keep working to build up the stock set-up for all it can take and dream of high 11's. Honestly if the guy hadn't told me that the 16G was a better bang for the buck and that the Godzilla TD06 is basically a 20G, I probably would think more seriously about it. I'll have to check with Darryl on Buschers turbos. I do like the idea of mastering the 14b to it's full potential though. It gives me something to work toward in a specific catagory rather than just going as fast as the big parts I can afford. Out on the track and on the street there will always be someone faster because they can afford bigger and better go fast parts. Marcus -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Here is my plan to date...
I'm getting a used 14b turbo from Josh this week. My initial goal is to pull off a 12.4x or quicker run, which will put me in the top five. I think this is very doable. KOU came up with a great idea of temporary weight reduction for at least one day of runs on my car! He thought if we got together a group of experienced weight reduction people, that we may be able to remove around 500lb of replaceable weight. That is, items that we can easily put back in the following day or so. I think that's a very interesting option. I want to run this 14b for a few days, log it and make sure it's tuned well with my intake upgrades and the MAFT. I can then take it to Cordova one Friday night soon and see if it will beat last years times at full weight. If all goes well we can plan a weight reduction party and another trip to Cordova where I can try to Narrow the gap between Phil Beers and I. Wheather this particular 14b lends it's self to low 12 second passes or not, I'm pretty much set on a new larger turbo and a whole new ball game of tuning for the next year. I've got my eyes on a few different options, but I'll be shooting for a minimum of 400HP and maybe 500HP depending on the street and auto-x drivability. Then it's off to the 11's! Just to add fuel to the fire. I don't know if anyone noticed but Phil Beers has submitted his car to SCC for the Ultimate Street Car challenge. He mentioned in the blurb that he'll be upgrading his turbo this season. Doesn't leave much time for him to improve on the milemarker he's set. Might be beatable.
