Alright...it's almost here.
For any of those planning on going to the special test and tune racing at Cordova this Sunday, get ready! There is a group of us meeting at 7:30 AM in the Bartonville Kroger parking lot. We will be grabbing some breakfast and then heading out to the track after that. The weather is supposed to be partly cloudy and in the 50's. So cross your fingers and hope the weather holds out with the possiblity of improving! The entry fee to race is $40, but if you just want to watch I'm sure that your more than welcome. Marcus BTW-I'm not sure if that's how you spell this guy's last name. (Vickory?) -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

I think spectators get in for free if they ride in the trunk, right?
I'm about 80% sure I'll be attending, spoolinup fmic kit and afpr or not. |

I would go if my DSM didn't break all the time. Hell, I haven't even figured out where I'm going to the transmission swap yet.
Going to try and get the car into limp-around mode, might end up just taking it back to my parent's house in Quincy. I wish I had my own garage ![]() -------------------- Eric Wort

Dang Eric! Bring up the Buick buddy. There are only going to be a few DSM's representing Sunday. The rest will be High powered domestics. Some in the 8-9 second range, unless they do a no-show for weather reasons.

General rules are:
Possibly some type of battery hold-down. Helmet for 13.99 and under. Driveshaft loop for RWD/AWD cars running slicks. Rollbar for 11.99, sometimes 11.50 and under. I don't think they care about anything else, some places make you wear pants, but I doubt it will be warm enough to wear shorts anyway. Maybe I'll show up. I was hoping to spend some QT with the Talon this weekend though. Also, I'm not sure when we're autocrossing the FSAE car either. Anybody know if they have race gas there? I'd like to run a mix for engine safety  Damn, that will be one early morning . . . -------------------- Eric Wort

Tech inspection is pretty superficial for us 'imports'. At least it is for those of us with stock looking interiors.
![]() The last time I went the guy asked if I had anything done or if it would run in the 13's. I said, uhhh...I'm not sure. He said, have fun. Nobody said a word as I laid down a couple of 13.6 passes and no helmet. I will have a helmet with me this weekend, as I'm sure many others will. We can share as required. Cordova had three grades of race gas I think. I know that they have 112 and 116 octane. I'm not sure about any others. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

I gues I should list the directions to the Bartonville Kroger, just in case any are unsure.
Assuming that you exit off of I474 toward Bartonville onto what most of us know as ADAMS street, take the following roads. Once you pass under the I474 overpass make a right at the next stop light. This will be Lafayette. Lafayette 'Y's off shortly after the light. Follow to the left of the 'Y' on to the very next stop sign. Once there take a right onto Garfield. Follow Garfield all the way up the hill and Kroger will be on your right hand side after a few miles. If anyone has any questions call my cell. I can PM you the number if you need it. Well, looks like I won't be going to Cordova. The only day we have a trailer is Sunday, so that's when we'll be at the autocross in Rantoul with good ole car #90.

i'm out too. it's going to cost me well over 200 to take it to the track tomorrow ( accumulated costs + foregone revenues ) and...
1) it's not tuned to my liking 2) the fmic still isn't in 3) why do I give a shit what my car would run at the track anyways (i.e. It's not a track car) 4) i'm really pressed for time I dont want to wake up at 7:30 so I can pay to beat on my car in [at best] moderate weather conditions. I did want to hang out with everybody and check out some of the big dog cars and especially species' h22 hybrid, _but_ it's just not worth it. Sorry Marcus and Nate, good luck though. |

Yes...those were some excellent numbers in pure street trim Dan. Good job and happy to see the numbers fall in your favor this time.
Cordova was GREAT for all those that couldn't make it. There were a lot of cars and the lines for racing were only about 3-10 minute long at the MOST. It was a great day for racing with the sun shining, and balmy 55 degree weather ![]() Scott, with the checkered, white 3000GT pulled some good numbers down after you left Dan. I seen him run a 12.50, and I believe one better, but I can't remember the time. His car does have the mods, so the times should be low. Darrell had a frustrating day, but it is pretty amazing to watch someone have problems and still be able to pull off an 11.50ET and a new best of 11.46!? (That's what it was right D&S?) Nates car is living up to it's reputation but I'll leave those stories to him. Josh was also having troubles, but with the go-go juice he was able to make a mid to high 13 second run. That thing accellerates crazy once it gets traction (About midway through 3rd)! Then his (bad) luck peaked as his tranmission broke, case and all....had to be trailered back. Daves Mustang ran an impressive 12.4x with his rebuilt suspension components and slicks. Brian ran all day in his $600 '86 Mustang. Starting out in the low 14's or high 13's he ended up with a mind boggleing 12.91 on an excellent launch. He was running Daves slicks and a 125HP shot of nitrous. There were a couple guys in Hondas from AIP. Ranta's made some 14 second passes, but there was a red one there that was just laying waste to his tires down the track and was running some impressive mid 13's. There was another AWD there, but the best I seen him run was a 14.8x while most of his runs were in the 15-16 second range. He didn't seem to take advantage of the AWD on the launches and his engine was smoking profusely. Then there was the 'Junk Yard DOG'. DANG I had a good day!!! I spent two and a half days working out the bugs of my external dump O2 housing only to find that it didn't control the boost like I expected. (Still creeping in third and forth.) So When I went to the track I had already decided I was pulling out all the stops and going for it (sub 13 second ET in my wishfull thinking ways). I teched and added 4 gallons of 112 octane to an empty tank. I made a couple of 13.4x passes, then turned up the boost. I couldn't tell how much until I got into third down the track. Then I seen my gauge waving at me from the 24psi line. I broke into a sweat and contemplated getting out of it to save the engine... but even using all of my common sense and will power I wasn't able to overcome the exhileration! I slammed the car into forth and hoped for the best. Not to steel anyones thunder, but I about $h!t myself and jumped up and down for joy after I rolled around the end of the track and got my time slip.....12.682 @106MPH !!!!!!!!! How did that happen?! I checked the other side of the slip to make sure I was looking at the right one and sure enough!! I thought it must be a timing error or a fluke. I mean I've got a 14b for crying out loud! ![]() Wow, all I can say is that this little junk yard engine has been well worth the money to hold up to that kind of abuse! Just goes to show how potent the stock 4G63 engine block and head are. My knock maxed out at 18 and my timing stayed in the 20's for most of the run. I was blessed with a great day! I'll post some pick of the time slips and the racing later on. Marcus -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

this is absolutely amazing, we've got a fair number of 12 second dsms in our midst and a couple very close behind. Marcus, it's about time you got rewarded for all your effort, congrats man.
Now what's the story with nate's car? how'd the new tranny hold up? Are my shift forks getting that car in the 12's too??? |

Marucs,
You should see how your car does with a larger inlet and outlet on the intercooler. Hint hint. I'll bet you'll gain at least a tentth or two. The best I could get out of the 14b was 12.72@105.7. You're driving the hell out of that car. Good job. Our car did run a best time of 11.46@121.6 this past weekend. Thank you Marcus for diagnosing the coil pack problem. The first pass was 11.48@122, then on the next 4-5 passes the car was missing badly no matter what changes I made to the VPC and GCC. 11.77,11.79,11.9. The car would miss at about 6 grand and shut down at 7 grand forcing an early shift. I made one pass shifting at 6800 and ran 11.50. Marucs found the coil problem and I changed the coil started the car and the oil spewed onto the ground from the oil filter coming lose. Frantically fixed that problem and put oil in car and made it to the staging lanes just before they closed them. The last pass with the same settings as the first run on the VPc and GCC netted an 11.46. No heres a question for everyone out there. What are all different things you have done to bring the knock sum count down.? Currently on the pocket logger I get FULL knock of 43?? The timing is retarded back to 5 degrees!!!!! Just think what this car would run 15 to 20 degrees of timing? I need all possible fixes. Hell mabye the is running lean the thats where the knock is coimg from? I only get about between .02 and .20 on the O2 voltage which obviously is wrond. I've changed the O2 sensor and still get the same readings. Any ideas? Thanks Darryl and Susan |

Ok everyone....here are the pictures Nate and I took while at Cordova. Go to http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSMCentral/lst and click on the 'Cordova10-20-02' folder.
BTW-Thanks Kris and Darryl...that means a ton comming from you guys! I don't think any of my knock advice would be worth much to you Darryl. I've changed everything under the sun to cure knock and came up with nothing except race gas to cure it totally. I'm sure your car has knock for different reasons than mine though.
