Hey all. I had a thought today and hope that maybe some of you might help me with it. I've been thinking of putting together a car show. There aren't all that many over the summer here and I'd like to contribute to the scene. I don't have final approval on anything yet so it's all up in the air right now. There are several different vendors that I know would be willing to contribute. Don't think you can't come just because your car isn't up to snuff for car shows. This is one for everybody and my car, scratches, scuffs, and dings will be in it too.

Here's the details:
Where- Leroy, IL Dollar General parking lot
When- Sept. 30th 2006 4pm-dark
Who- multiple area forums and car enthusiasts alike
Why- to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and have a good time!
How much- $5 entry fee benefiting JDRF

Myself and a good friend of mine, Steve work at Advance Auto Parts in Bloomington, IL together. Steve has also offered to help with it and will be running the video camera and arranging for prizes. This month at Advance we are selling paper "shoes" to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help find a cure. I figured we could do something special for it and incorporate a car show. I plan on having awards 1st through 3rd in each of 6 classes. The class titles are still under review so post if you have any ideas.

GM Performance
Ford Performance
Mopar Performance
Classics/Restorations/Stock Class
Trucks/SUV/Minivans
Sport Compacts

Three judges will be selected with varying degrees of automobile knowledge and will have ultimate decision on discrepancies.

Any and all comments welcome. I've never put together a car show before so if you've got any suggestions, lets hear 'em! And of course, if this works out I'd like to put dsmcentral.com down as one of the sponsors if anything just for the publicity. Thanks.

BTW, there's only one class for Sport Compacts because there just aren't that many around here that would attend. If there is surmountable interest in a seperate class we can add it at a later date.

Looks good to me Turbohcar. I would be happy to have DSMCentral sponser or participate in some way for this event.

That being said, I don't have much car show experience to offer you. There are plenty around here that do though. good luck with this. biggthumpup.gif

That, and it would look bad to have a four-banger dominating the hp figures over dem domestic boys! biggthumpup.gif

Well, at least I've made about 10 successful trips around town in my car without grenading my driveshaft! ph34r.gif wink.gif

The Bane has been up and running for some time now, albeit untuned. Looks like it may be disassembled again soon, though.

Sounds like a good time and a good cause. Maybe a special award for "cleanest car" or some sort of overall prize that would be fair for every class.

Goaty my boy, sometimes you just have to realize when to call it quits and move on with life. Why disassemble again? Why not drive it for awhile, get it tuned and be happy for a bit. You do want to drive your car eventually and not spend every minute of every waking hour just working on it don't you?

Some of us have higher horsepower levels than others. I'd say it takes a considerable horsepower level to break a driveshaft. Thus the reasoning for me having exceptionally large gonads and yours.... well are non-existant.

I hope to see you on the road sometime, that is IF you've got the gonads!
BTW, if you're man enough, I'd like to see you at the car show pending its approval. Should be a decent turn out.

Let me explain for all you nay-sayers: the car is in poor shape right now. Many parts should have been replaced instead of reattached. I rushed my work, and have produced a bad vehicle. This isn't a "i'm not happy with the layout of my vacuum hoses and i want to paint a few things" reason. More of a "the suspension, brake, and drivetrain components need some serious attention, and many other rusted and worn parts need rehabbed" thing. Mock and jab if you will, but it was those types of comments that pursuaded me to put it together as it sits.

Well, right now it's a matter of if I can get the lot. I'm still waiting on word from her. If I can't get the lot, I'll probably end up trying to have it at Advance.
